Was at the fuel station tonight, filled up with 16.5 +/- gallons and when I came out from paying there was a puddle of fuel under the tank. Drove home thinking it just ran down the filler neck and when I got there and looked at the filler neck it was bone dry. The tank seems to only be wet from the seam down and doesn't appear to be dripping very fast if at all. When I look up toward the top I see a small black tube with a white end that appears to be hanging loose, could this be a breather tube that popped out of the top.

Want to know if:

1) Has anybody experienced this before?
2) Does anybody have a picture of what the top of a tank should look like from when they dropped theirs so I can find that loose tube?
3) Any general ideas what I could be?

Not really looking forward to dropping a full tank tomorrow if I don't have to, I was supposed to go to VA tomorrow and don't want to cancel if it's just overfilling (which this hasn't occurred before when even adding 18+ gallons).

Thanks,

I had a problem with mine leaking from time to time after filling up and found a second breather hose with vent cap on it sticking out behind the tank. It was on top driver side of the tank. It depended on how fast the auto shut-off on the fuel pump turned off if it leaked or not. I added two feet of hose to it and ran it up along side the fuel fill neck to keep it from belching fuel out. It has been fine ever since. (about 10,000 miles or so)

This has happened to various members from time to time and it seems to be a topic that comes up every few months or so, it sees as though in many cases it only happens one time.

Now, I've never had this problem i am reporting on what i have read around here, if i were you, i would not get too exited until it happens repeatedly.

I've had it happen a couple of times when I use the large nozzle pump for big rigs.

How do you get the large nozzle in? I stopped at a BP with a truck filling station once and pulled up to the truck lane with the pumps on both sides that are connected in pair, I could not it down in past the metal flap in the filler.

not had a leak yet myself but good to know it can happen if you over fill.

It won't go into the opening. I have to hold it in place right at the top.

That's what I would have had to do but I was not brave enough to try it. I had visions of fuel spraying far and wide. I went to the slow pumps
