Hi, I would like to know if we're supposed to change the glow plugs at regular intervals like the good old metal tip or do we keep them forever till they fail?

Till they fail, even if they had a replacement interval, most modern diesel engines don't use glow plugs. Yes on consumer vehicles the intake grid heater is more common, even with total glow plug failure, it will start and run fine in normal conditions.

Basically with our engine they make things easier, but frankly they are not needed. It WILL start without functional glow plugs, to a point. at that point your probably going to be using the block heater anyway.

If i had a glow plug failure, i would fix it. When i felt like it, low priority.

They are cycled during combustion at low temps as well, improving economy (insignificant imho) and emissions (main goal) were talking -40f here.
