I have been experiencing a nasty shudder from the drivetrain while the TC is locked and under heavy load, going uphill. I suspect it is the TC but am unsure. How long will this last and if it is the TC what will happen when it fails?

The world will end. It is the torque converter and occurs with most CRDs. Where are you in Wisconsin? South Lake Motors in Rice Lake will replace it as a TSB recall item if you can replicate the shudder for the tech.

I do have the extended warranty but I also have the GDE tune. I am afraid that they may say that the tune has caused this. Does anyone know if they check the ECM programming before they honor the warranty?

You can go to the dealer to have the TC replaced, the tune will show up as stock through an OBD reader. Was the TC shuddering before installing the tune? Your converter must have been built on a Friday! Try to get the dealer to order the new Mopar TC PN 68037142AA. This is stronger than the converter that was originally used for the TC replacement program. It is only $200, so they install it anyway free of charge due to the shudder.

Once shudder occurs, the TC only gets weaker. This problem will propagate until the converter fails and sends friction material and metal throughout your transmission. Better to get it fixed sooner rather than later. It will last several thousand miles if you do not initiate any additional shudder, but the dealer should fix your issue. If they insist on reflashing your ECU with the low torque calibration in the TSB...no problem, just let us know and we will reinstall the tune after the job is finished.

Thanks for the info,
The shudder was present before the tune but it seems to have worsened after the tune. I will contact my dealer and see if they will be replacing the TC for me.

I have been through 4 torque converters due to this shutter. The Dealership has always been extremely helpful here in GA however, this time around corporate Chrysler sent out engineers to see what was wrong with my vehicle. They claim that my vehicle is the only one to experience shudder after the f37 was preformed. Long story short engineers could not find anything out of the ordinary with my vehicle other than the shudder, so they decided to blame it on my lift and tell me to stuff it until I return the the vehicle to stock configuration (hence the sucncoast comment in my signature).... Sorry to hijack... so does anyone here have any suggestions other than fix it out of pocket, or higher a lawyer?

Thanks

Lifts can cause driveline vibration problems, and IMHO this is more likely in CRDs due to the torque available. The massive flywheel off the back of the transfer case is there to mitigate the torque pulse effect (another source of vibration). I would suggest a couple fo things:

1. Get a driveline specialist to remove your driveshaft and spin it to check the balance. It sometimes occur that they get out of balance, came that way, or had a balancing weight knocked off.
2. Try a cheap spacer to return the slip joint to stock position.
3. If all else fails get a double carden joint put into the driveshaft.

There are also rear axle positioning and tilt things that a driveline specialist might suggest.

Groo2,

Send me the engineers number and lets arrange for them to look at mine, I don't have a lift and other that the IMMotion tune and other items which they should not see, I can duplicate at will. I have been F37'd so lets see what they say.
