Finally got front Bilsteins installed today. When combined with the rears that have been on for a couple months, fore/aft pitching was significantly reduced. Dive under heavy braking was also reduced. I would tend to agree with the Bilstein tech who claimed they are 20% stiffer in bump and rebound than OEM.

DocB,

Regarding your spring situation, I would suggest you use the factory procedure to measure your ride height first. It is described in detail on pg 2-4 of the FSM.
Our CRD with 60K measured 2.75" on the left front and 2.5" on the right. (This means that the left side is a 1/4" LOWER than the right.) This could have been fixed with about an 1/8" thick spacer added to the spring perch, but time did not permit to fab one up.

The factory considers anything between 2.2" and 3" for front ride height to be OK. I would not bother with new springs because they will also sag at some point, usually not evenly. The Bilstein perches really lend themselves to using spacers. Just get the ride height equal on both sides and in the 2.5" range, install your Bilsteins and I think you will be very satisfied. My guess is that your front shocks are pretty wasted and this is what is making you think you need higher rate springs.

DOC,

Thanks for the info. I will get it measured out and let you know.

Glad you got the fronts installed also. Good luck with them, they should be better than the OEM.
Don't forget to keep the stock shocks. Remember, Bilsteins have a lifetime warranty.

Did you say something about the rears needing a larger bolt?

DocB,

You can certainly just bolt in your rears and see if they rattle. It will just take a minute to change them later. However, Jeep has a superceded bolt for the upper mount with a larger shank. I had to use 4 of those (in both upper and lower positions) to stop the rattles. When you buy the top bolt they will sell you the "new" one.

$250 for all 4 including shipping is a terrific price and it looks like that is without the 25% Bilstein factory rebate that just expired.
