Post subject:  ECU

Hi Folks

I need to replace my ECU and thought that I would do the noble thing by asking you all if anyone perhaps had an ECU for sale considering that a lot of you are now doing the GDE tuning thing and that you may have one lying around at home collecting dust

When we get the GDE tune, we remove the ECM, ship it in. GDE re flashes it, and sends it back to us, we don't get a new one.

This place has one listed for $175:

This place has one listed for $115:

if either won't ship internationally then you could probably get someone to here in the US to ship it to you.

And watch out, I swapped my ECU out to send the original to GDE and the vehicle hasn't started since, the 'Sentry Key Immobilization System' thinks the vehicle has been stolen or something, even with the stock ECU back in it...

abHester3,

Had you simply sent your "spare" ECU to GDE with your VIN and injector codes and left your OEM unit untouched, you would have had no difficulty. (I swap in the OEM before taking the Jeep to the dealer for warranty work.)

Hopefully, news of your misfortune will benefit someone in terms of not making the same mistake.

It may be that the purpose of this problem is to serve as a warning to others.

I've had my fair share of those...

Mackruss: none of the North American ECUs will work in your hand shaker model. You will need to find an export model with manual tranny, if you want the computer to work. It would probably be cheaper for you to just get it reflashed by your local dealer.

mackruss, shoot me an email and I will give you the contact # for a person in the UK who may be able to help you out with a MT ecu.

I tried the dealer and they said that she's unflashable and needs to be replaced. I'm going to try one more dealer ( before they close up) for a second opinion.

At the current exchange rate, they quoted me 1200$ to replace the unit

Did they try to reflash it, or just look at it and say that it can't be done?

He tried with his Starscan, I was in the workshop with him when he tried however he said that the Starscan was unable to communicate correctly with my CRD's ECU to do the reflash.

My new CRD has the same code, dont seem to bother any thing, but I sent an email to GDE to see if their reflash could clear it, here is the reply I got:

Bob,

We are not able to clear a P0610 code in most situations. There is some sort of module confusion in your vehicle. You could try disconnecting the battery for about an hour, then reconnect and see if the code clears on its own. Otherwise the dealer will have to clear the code as it is most likely an issue with the body controller and not the engine controller. I hope this helps you out.

Thanks,
Keith

I already disconnected the battery, will post results Later.

BTW, passed NYS inspection with no problem today even though I have a P0610 and a P0102 DTC. It is not required in NYS to connect to the OBD connector on diesel powered vehicles for an inspection, if you have a gasser, you had better not have a CEL.

Hello Fellas,

Could someone in the know please post the part # for our ECU?

I would like to pick one up to send out for tuning and just want to make sure I get the right one.

TIA.

Yup, I'd have been fine if I'd have left the stock one in and sent the spare to GDE but, having bought it on Ebay, I wanted to make sure it actually worked, LOL!

Sometimes I get the feeling a lot of things I do are primarily to serve as a warning to others...

UPDATE: The Ebay ECM is junk, GDE tells me it will not communicate to be reprogrammed. Knowing what I do about Ebay vendors I suspect my chances of exchange or refund are slim to none...

I don't think you are going to have much success disconnecting your battery. I've tried that already. Dealer needs to reflash or replace :x

Has the code caused you any problems? I have no problem, except when I plug my scanner in, and cant clear it. How about you?

No problems except for the irritating CEL
