So far it seems that the overwhelming majority of failures are on 06MY vehicles. For the owners that have had failures, can you confirm or deny if your vehicle has had the latest ECU flash, and if not, what is the part number on the label of the ECU?

If your ECU has a base calibration (even if tuned) that is old enough, you might not have been exposed to the latest cals that had refinements for glow plug control.

If you post up what is on the sticker of your vehicle, I can let you know which category you fall into.

Hi, I don't want to hijack this thread but I have a quick question. I notice on the polls quite often the Sarah Palin option. I know who she is, but bieng Canadian I don't get it. could someone please explain so I can share your sense of humor. I'm guessing?

On another forum I'm on, its usually Martha Stewart as the random person option. I'm the one who selected Palin here, b/c there is NO WAY that I would ever select her for anything other than comic relief. That entire family is such a great bunch, (seriously) giving of themselves freely... To comic writers everywhere.

A new controller is cheaper than pulling the cylinder head and or replacing parts.

Or has there been a rash of glow plug failures recently? Can anyone chime in this; maybe we can make this thread a collection spot for those with glow plug codes and problems.

If it stays on too long, the glow plugs will over heat, burn up, and shatter into chunks. A new controller is cheaper than pulling the cylinder head and or replacing parts.

I've had 2 fail in 70,000 miles. Under warranty. No big deal (yet)

I'm on about the 10th glow plug for cylinder #2 - P1263 it's under warranty - so I paid the deductible the 1st time - the rest has been free (except for the time) it's gotten 2 or 3 glow plug modules, a couple of sets of wiring. The head was pulled once - because they broke one of the other glow plugs I talked to the mechanic again and they're still trying to figure out a plan best guess is they'll pull the head again - to reinspect everything........... If they find a cause I'll let you know - and If anyone has any ideas - let me know. (oh yeah - started in December 08 - at 65,000 miles - now at 75,000 - they typically last a week or two)

Ouch. I think you are more than making up for anyone that hasn't had a failure. I hope they figure it out soon.

I had 3 out of 4 glow plugs fail in the first six months of ownership and I bought it brand new with 108 miles on the clock. 70k later, I've had no issues with the GPs.

It may have started with a Poll I did a few years back with "Pat Buchanan" as an option. That humor was mostly reflected at the 2000 US Presidential election where Pat Buchanan was on the Ballot, the joke mostly referred to the fact that the ballots were supposed to be "confusing" with regard to who you wanted to vote for, supposedly people who didn't want to vote for Pat Buchanan did, and others that did want to vote for him, did not. Now thats all fine and dandy, but it also makes an interesting way for us to keep track of another demographic, the person who has no options in the poll to select, can select Pat Buchanan/Sarah Palin. For Example, in a glow plug thread, if a gasser owner happens to come along the poll they can then put in "Sarah Palin" as an option......and look at the numbers climb. Overall not that funny, just a slightly amusing anecdote that pops up every now and then. Now take of ya Hoser!

Tim Hortons. If a Canadian wanted to win an election all they would need to do is change their name to Tim Hortons XXXSurnameXXX. He would win in a Landslide Some Canadians have told me that they feel that Tim Hortons would do a much better job of running their government as a Contractor.

Does ambiet temps effect whether or not glow plugs will fail? Here in FL, glow plugs are rarely ever needed except for a few cold winter mornings. As far as I know, all my glow plugs are fine and with 51K miles have never been replaced. Hearing about all these failures makes me want to pull my GPs and check them. However, if one is bad, I could potentially damage the head. Maybe I'm thinking too much about it. I guess ignorance truely is bliss.

Unfortunately the light only tells part of the story. Most of the burn is done after the startup (after the light is extinguished) especially in cold temperatures.

I think it included a couple of other things with it. I believe the mechanic did it when I complained about air in fuel in the days before the lift pump.
