Well, I got the Hot Tune on my Black Libby, The thing runs like a rocket  I decided since I did not have any shudder in my recently purchased CRD, I would give the Hot tune a try. So far so good. Ran fine at all speeds and ranges. I figured what the hell, same price as the Eco, when you buy a new commercial truck you pay dearly for every little extra bit of power, even if it is only software tuned. Best part is you still get the same great mileage if you can keep your foot off of the skinny pedal. Can't wait till I get a challenge out in the street, they are gonna eat my smoke :!:

I officially told my wife, she can drive the Eco tuned Libby from now on  And I will drive the lesser Sport model

I will try to get some 0 to 60 numbers soon.

One thing i have yet to see is the difference between the eco tune and hot tune. I only see eco tune numbers. What are the numbers for the hot tune?

You got gauges on that thing? Be interesting to see how the EGTs differ from stock. I thought you needed the turbo up grade with the hot tune.

They "suggest" the TC upgrade for the HOT tune. The turbo upgrade is down the road a few more months.

No Gauges, the info on the tune is here http://www.greendieselengineering.com/f ... st/20.page, my TC seems to hold it fine, so far. Never know, previous owner may have put in a better converter?

Keep us posted on how well your trans keeps up with the hot tune. 8)

Quite curious if later on you feel TC shudder or none at all. Lucky dawg!

I think there was a period at the end?

As far as shudder goes, none to my surprise, I used to be able to feel it with the factory ECU in my first CRD.

Well, we had some rainy weather lately, and I am not going to hammer it with that kind of conditions. So I have been driving it at moderate speeds, I find it to be quite the torque monster, being I am running lower RPMs, it feels very commanding, at low speeds. It even broke traction at light throttle and flashed the ESP. It is almost too much torque for such a light vehicle.

Hehe I've gotten my TDI tuned too, that gave me 40hp and some 60Nm extra, I'm at about 125hp per ton now :D You guys need that turbo kit and an additional 50hp on top to beat me :p

0-60 who knows? :p Possibly about 9 seconds but I've done no test.

Oh crud, my Freightliner is running at only 32 HP per Ton, surprized it moves at all

BTW, what trail in the woods would you like to race us on in your VW

That is why he had to go for the TDI and let go of his CRD.

My Son working in Amsterdam would have much lower vehicle taxes with a Porsche Cayenne gasser than his BMW 530d Diesel.

Well my GDE HOT Tune is due in my shop today...can't wait to see some mileage gains and even better driveability. The SEGR really improves the intial GO PEDAL response and works great. The addition of the GDE HOT should be even better.

Congrats to the Founder of LOST, you will like it alot. I did not realize the SEGR did so much for throttle response, but it makes sense not getting choked out with exhaust vapors.

Fairly easy swap...bottom nuts are a bit of a PITA to get to.

Will have to get used to "go pedal" response. When I let off the pedal, I still feel a small surge forward...probably the energy left from the seemiongly quicker spool up or something. Got used to it very quickly.

Now to check the mileage gains...

I noticed the same thing. FYI, here is GDE's answer:

About the vehicle acceleration on a tip-out maneuver (removing your foot
from the pedal), that kind of behavior is expected. What you described
before (where when you remove your foot from the pedal you feel the vehicle
"slow down") is what most people refer to as the vehicle not coasting very
well. Additionally, in that kind of maneuver you would feel the driveline
clunk as the torque on the driveline went from positive to negative. What we
did was change how the accelerator pedal position gets filtered in the ECU
software so that not only is the clunk reduced (hopefully so on most cars)
but the vehicle "coasts" better. Additionally, the logic which filters the
actual injected fuel quantity was adjusted to get rid of the clunk because
not only is it annoying but is bad for the driveline components. The vehicle
shouldn't ever continue to accelerate -- however, the rate of deceleration
has changed which is what I think you're feeling.

Getting the RPMs down as you mentioned isn't always the key -- at 760rpm
(idle speed), the engine has to inject a certain amount of fuel to keep it
running. If the engine stays at an extremely light load at a higher RPM, in
most cases it'll actually be consuming less fuel and the fuel economy will
actually improve with time.

Well MPG looks very promising so far...still a bit early to celebrate...but my last fillup showed a 28% increase! I got 25.46mpg mostly city.

Darby,

What are you noticing in terms of shudder with your stock TC and the GDE "Hot" tune? I strongly suggest you not "allow" it to shudder much because it will fill the trans with debris. Better to avoid it like the plague. (I'm waiting to get the "euro" installed before going to the Hot tune. The InMotion Stage II caused horrible shudder if I did not "drive around it".)

Best Wishes,
