About 40k miles ago I replaced the lower ball joints with Moog's, did OME springs and Bilstein shocks. The rig ended up 2" higher but that was not too bad.
Now, when I go over any kind of bump I get a "thunk" noise. Tires are wearing well but before I replace them this front end must be cured.
Time to replace the upper arms with Al's? I am not a real off roader but the roads here in Maine are turning third world very quickly.
Will probably take it down to find out for sure.
Any suggestions?

Before you go spending money on this, check the torque on the nuts on the top of the struts. The left strut nuts are terrible to get to, especially the rearmost one, and perhaps it was never tightened up properly.

Hi, have you considered broken or loose engine mounts? There are many threads on the issue, try searching for it. The mounts seem to be making trouble for many of us, and not surprisingly, that is not the first place to look for when you hear thunk sound in the front end.

I think the plastic bumper is loose.
Whacked a dog and it broke the bumper up.

A good piece of maintenance advice for any driver is to stop whacking small animals...

I agree with Glend, my crd had just that "thunk" and that was the problem, 2 of the screws (under the hood) above the strut were a half turn loose and every bump I would go over would make this sound. 3 dealers could not figure out the problem. crd's shake a lot and with this shaking screws, nuts, and bolts get loose

Happy to have your first comment.
You 2 are probably right..
Trying to scrape pennies together to get the Eco-Mind-Wipe (GDE ECM ORM).
The battery is dying, tires need replacing and that bumper skin is a pain in the gl-ass, winter is coming.
The second dog, the one I hit, took out the windshield wiper sensor. Swerved to avoid the first, the second poor dog was unavoidable.
I replaced the fumoto valve with a new plug because it no longer worked.
Thunk moved to the back, of course I was off road.
