Post subject:  Are the 2.4L CV Axles the same as the 2.8L CV Axles????

I want to replace my CV axle.

The free 2005 Liberty parts schematic from:

http://www.books4engineer.com/2005-jeep ... list.html/

says that the CRD and the 2.4L have the same CV axle(page 37)
and they are seperate from the 3.7L gas.

Dodge says the CRD CV is not the same as the 2.4L!!!

I can locate the 2.4L CV axle online but the only place I see the 2.8L is JeepinbyAL.com, and they are alot!!!!

:?: Are the 2.4L CV's the same as the 2.8L CV's :?:

Thanks to anyone that can help!!!!

Josh

Pretty sure they are not the same, I think the problem comes from the fact that people think 4cyl CVs are all the same, without realizing that one of them is for the diesel, and IS different.

Yeah, I agree it can be confused easily.

Sir Sam(or anyone), The Parts Schematic shows the 2.4L gasser and 4/5 cylinder Diesel's as the same CV axles.
Isn't the part schematic from Jeep/Mopar???

That is how I read it too. Why in the world does the right hand axle cost almost $500 on ours and the 2.4 when on the 3.7 they are essentially the same price?

axle shaft assy, liberty, 2.4l, right Front drive axle - Drive axles - Axle shaft assy 02-05 $1,080.00 $734.85
axle shaft assy, liberty, 2.8l, right Front drive axle - Drive axles - Axle shaft assy 05-06 $1,080.00 $734.85
axle shaft assy, liberty, 2.4l, left Front drive axle - Drive axles - Axle shaft assy 02-05 $374.00 $257.60
axle shaft assy, liberty, 2.8l, left Front drive axle - Drive axles - Axle shaft assy 05-06 $374.00 $257.60

axle shaft assy, liberty, 3.7l, left Front drive axle - Drive axles - Axle shaft assy 02-07 $420.00 $289.80
axle shaft assy, liberty, 3.7l, right Front drive axle - Drive axles - Axle shaft assy 02-07 $374.00 $257.60

They have an interchange guide that gets updated by those who use it.

One thing you can say about Tiger Woods, No One has ever caught him wiping out the Golf Cup with Toilet Paper.
Can't say the same about most Parts People

I'm using the Parts Schematic from the PDF file at the website I listed above. This shouldn't be changed by people using it, right?
And it should be per Mopar, correct?

So the 2.4L and 4/5 cylinder Diesels have the same CV Axles!!!!!

I tried asking Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep about it! Wow, they are so helpful :x

Looking at the official parts list for the 2007 KJ, it lists the complete front half shaft assemblies as 05066020AA/05066021AA for the 3.7 V6 and 52111780AB/52111781AB for both the 2.5 and 2.8 diesels. It doesn't list the 2.4 petrol at all.

The 2.4 Gasser was not available in the states in 2007. How about Oz?

Post subject:  CRD CV Joints

Since Chrysler does not have a breakdown on the Inner and Outer CV Joints we do not know the difference.
I suspect the CRD uses a larger outer CV Joint that is also used on other Chrysler applications with higher torque engines.
Another reason to have a stronger outer CV would be the 4 cyl power pulsations which are not as smooth as the six.
I would bet that a CV axle re-builder would know and has it all figured out.
They may be using the stronger joint for both 3.7L and CRD.

I think these guys have: http://www.clearlyauto.com/catalog/2006 ... t-Assembly
