I have a 06 CRD and have a check engine light on and when I try to read the code there are non. The light has came on and went back off a couple times in the last week. I have noticed that it seems to be blowing black smoke a little more then it used too and also it seems at time to be just a little louder.

Does anyone have any ideas or a reason this would be happening?

Thanks

There are lots of members that may be able to help you if we knew the area you live. (Nothing posted on your profile).

Sorry I'm located in Huntington, WV

I have a ScanGauge II and it is showing no codes. I also stopped by a parts store and their code reader also shows no codes. That's the problem. I don't understand the light being on with no codes.

Thanks

unless they are using a DRBII they can not see if there are transmission codes...
you might have one... might have to suck it up and go to a dealer for this one...

there is one other system that will read it but i cant think of the name of it...
MAC snap-on etc will not read the TCM cause there is no option for the diesel engine..

Have you tried scanning it as soon as you turn it off? Drive it as normal and then just as soon as you turn off the engine, plug the code reader in and turn the key back over to "On." That's the only way I can get my scanner to read it; if it has been sitting for a while it won't read.

I just tried this and same result no codes.

Also last night before leaving work I disconnected the MAF sensor so that I knew I would have a code to read. Well I still can't read a code off of it. Also this morning as I was running errands I started the jeep up and the ESP and traction control lights came on and stayed on until the next time I stopped and started it again. I'm starting to think it is a problem with the ECU. I just had it tuned by InMotion back in the beginning of June. I'm wounding if it could just be a software glitch or if the ECM itself is bad. Does this sound reasonable?

The reason I think it could be the ECM is I have a friend that was having similar problems with a wrangler check engine light with no codes and it turned out being the ECM.

Thanks,
Charlie

I forgot I also reseated the connections to the ECM with the same results.

Also for those with ScanGauge IIs should I be able to use the gauges on it with the CRD? Currently the only data it seems to pull is the RPM and VLTs. If other are able to pull more data this might also point to a communication problem with the ECM.

Thanks,
Charlie
