I didn't think it was still availible, but last week I found a station that sells highway LSD and offroad high sulfur D2. I filled my truck up with LSD and man did it love it. I bought 60 gallons of the good 5000 PPm stuff for the CRD and, boy oh boy, does it like it. I had almost forgoten what real fuel smelled like. There was a very noticeble increase in power and the engine became very quiet, even more so than running Biodiesel. I can't normally notice any smoke during the day when WOTing it but I can now if I drive with a light throtle for a half hour or so the nail it. I won't know my milege until I use up all 60 gallons because I don't have a meter on my transfer tank for calculating MPG at each fill up.

The station is in Superior Wisconsin close to the ship yards. I think that it comes off of ships from overseas, because the refinery in Duluth only produces ULSD. It is the Cenex station on Hwy 53.

Now you need to change your oil and filter due to excessive sulphur deposits from the 5000ppm, clean your injectors as these deposits would have affected the spray patterns 8). Might as well remove the inlet manifold whilst you about it and clean that out as well

BTW NC - Is your lift pump connected directly to the metal fuel line instead of the pipe coming directly from the fuel tank :?:

#1: Diesel engine oil is designed with extra additives to handle sulfur.

#2: The sulfur in diesel is bound up molecularly with the fuel and cannot be seperated by any mechanical fuel filter, nor can it plug the filter. If the injectors are functioning properly, they will not be affected in any way by higher sulfur fuel except to have a longer life due due the superior lubricity of HSD. The most popular application for the VM Motori is in the marine industry. The same engine, same injectors, same oil, and same filters are designed for, and used with high sulfur marine fuel, with no ill effects.

#3: How on earth is sulfur going to make it's way into my intake manafold?

Yes. My lift pump is plumbed into the metal fuel line under the frame rail.

He's talking about 5000ppm unless it's a typing error.

What do you attribute the "noticeable increase in power" from if it's only the sulphur content that was reduced in the ULSD?

I'm trying to establish if i'm making a mistake using 50ppm when i can still obtain 500ppm in my part of the world.

High sulfur diesel is generally recognized as having a higher BTU value because of the higher amount of aromatics, which get removed during the thiol striping process. Possibly, the sulfur may raise the Cetane number as well. In black powder, sulfur depresses the ignition point by approximately 200 degrees, and although the sulfur in diesel is not in the free state, it may still have the same effect, thereby raising the Cetane index.

No one can dispute the positive effects of HSD's superior lubricity on the IP and injector life either.

HSD is not something which I would be likely to run on a regular basis, as it is known to be a possible contributer to acid rain, although the amount coming from one Jeep cannot make any kind of measurable impact on a city's smog level, there is still a principle involved. I just thought my little mule would like a treat.

The sulfur is removed by hydrotreating which involves exposing the fuel to hydrogen gas in a catalyst bed at high temperature and pressure by converting it into hydrogen sulfide which is captured from the system. A side reaction of the process is the reduction of the aromatics and other unsaturated bonds which results in a slightly lower BTU content of the fuel.

Holy cow, I think I just got a tank of 500 ppm then, down here in SA. A Citgo station at the junction of Bandera Rd and Eckhert Rd. I went there because MSN price list showed them still at 2.41/gallon. On the two diesel pumps, they still had stickers saying it was 500 ppm and not for use in 07 or later diesels.

Either thay haven't updated the stickers on their pumps in 2 or 3 years, or I got a tank of 500 ppm diesel. It would be a wonder how they could do that, considering that they're supposed to be selling ULSD TXLED diesel by state law.

Hey Retmil46- westsider -Esse, Vato!
Ooops JK!! more aligned to being a Northwestsider-- North of the Mason- Dixon line or in San Antonio Known as Culebra Road!

I am a native San Antonioan living in Phoenix for the last 30 years but visit biyearly and seems the D2 out there is more powerful or the ULSD here is just more rotgut. There is a QT connivence megastore here on I10 and 51st Ave that features LSD also with labels "not for motors 2007 or newer". Only place left literally in AZ with available LSD.

So for proper fuel lubeing its a visit to QT or a visit to Western States petroleum near downtown for some B99 or a splash of Supertech two stroke oil when I get to the house.

I do this for the CRD and my wifey's Jetta TDI.

what are you smoking? Most of us that got a 05 new drove a year and a half or more on it before the new stuff came available, no issues at all. I did at least 30K on it.

I got some fuel at Royal Farms on south queen st in york Sunday. I found the station on msn too, I had never been there before, the price was $2.599 when most stations around were $2.739 to $2.799 per gallon. so I figured it was just a few miles away from where I was going to be so it was worth the trip out of my way to fill up cheap.

the lable on the pump said it was ULSD for all diesel engines but the thing is since then I have been seeing the EVAIC showing I'm getting 20.4 to 22.3 MPG before this fill up I was only getting 18.7 to 19.7 doing the same mostly all city driving. What could be so different about this fuel over what I have been getting? I higher cetaine level?

I do know that there is a new Royal Farms location being built along my normal comute, if their fuel is going to be good and cheap then I'm going to be a regular there.

Better watch out mackruss or you may get your own version of C.A.R.B., first smoking pot and then tripping on Acid is what got them started.

So again, will this stuff hurt us long term? EGR has been SEGRed so I'm not worried about that.
The Shell is a little cheaper by about $.05 a gallon and is only 15PPM
Also, I just started filling when I took the pic, got about 19 gallons in :)
Sorry about the size. (Sure there is a joke there to, but don't want to offend)

No, not if the EGR is disabled. The lubricity is superior and the BTU value is higher (significantly higher, depending which chart you look at).

I will soon have some some MPG figures for the 5000PPM stuff I purchased a few weeks ago.
