Local dealer just checked and confirmed that the "euro" JK TC is now the "standard" replacement TC for the KJ CRD.

If you are still under warranty, all you need is an InMotion Stage II ECU and you can get yourself a new, probably adequate TC for an installed price of no more than $100.

Come to think of it, a GDE "HOT" tune probably would do a pretty good job of making your original or F37 TC shudder, too.

Hope some folks can take advantage of this new development.

Zackly the same as before. The only difference is the damper which has a higher spring rate and will hold higher torque while locked up before bottoming out and shuddering.

Still has the plastic stator, still has brazed fins, still has a stamped cover.

Anyone got one of these near KY????

My 2005 CRD is at 64k miles.....I have about 6k of powertrain warranty remaining.......and a $100 bill for the deductible.

GS,

It would have to be sent to GDE to be reset to your VIN and injector codes, then set back. I'm not sure anyone here is quite THAT generous.

It was worth a shot.........maybe I could borrow a friend's 1988 Airstream Excella triple axle travel trailer and tow it some with the CRD instead of my 2007.5 RAM 3500 MegaCab. That would probably toss the torque convertor in the "warranty" bin, ehh ? :D

Wow, and I thought I was over the top with towing.

The only problem is that a failed torque converter can contaminate the transmission with small sharp things that don't like valve bodies.

Some plastics like Teflon can handle 400f others like UHMW wimp out at 170f.
What type of plastic is it?
If that is a big trade secret that would get you killed or fired, what is the spec requirement in respect to operating temp?

The reason I ask is that with my big PML pan my temp has not gone over 180f and that was when I was stuck in a traffic jam caused by an accident with a 98f ambient temp with the AC running full blast. Towing my trailer the trans temp stays under 140f.
As long as the oil does not get to hot the plastic should work.
If Chrysler uses a wimpy plastic, I better save up for the pricey Suncoast and forget about the J8 converter.

My bachelors degree was in metallurgy. Anything not metal is usually 'plastic'. I'll try to find out.

Hate to be the one to wag a finger, but everyone might want to reconsider public statements of intentional abuse for warranty work.

I hardly think my 2005 CRD could handle the 900+ lb tongue weight and overall weight of 6900+ lbs of the above pictured Airstream; it was all in good humor.

The ol' RAM 3500 w/68RFE enjoyed the workout quite well though.

I bought the Jeep new in April 2005 and had 0.00% for 48 months; I accelerated the payments and actually had it paid off early around September 2008. Not having another vehicle payment allows some flexibility in repair bills....if need be.

I knew your post was in humor. I was mainly speaking on the loading a hot tune to blow a TC on purpose. Granted this is a gray area since the stock TC couldn't handle stock power. But when you increase power beyond that, then want someone else to foot the bill. That's when things aren't so gray.

I'll leave it be. I was just making a statement. Whatever someone decides to do is up to them, and DC to decide to pay or not.

You'll still get the software with decreased power.

I have a 2006 are they also subject to this TC problem and a recall.

I think I am out of warranty cus 2006 only had a 36,000 mile I don't think there was a powertrain coverage beyond that.

I don't notice any thing odd about mine granted I only towed a utility trailer with it once to get a dryer I bought off craigslist, not a heavy load at all and it pulled like it wasn't there at all.

Depends when yours was built. It was in November 05 or later is has a different TC then the earlier ones. If it is one of these then all you get is the flash part of F37 :lol:

Look for the MDH portion of the door sticker.....here's a pic of the one from my 2007.5 Dodge RAM 3500 MegaCab. It's generally in the lower left hand corner of the sticker. Sorry for the bad picture !

MDH = Month Day Hour

05 = May
16 = May 16th
09 = 0900 Saltillo Time !

so thats Nov. 21 2200 hours or 10pm

looks like I should have a different TC than the others made earlier.

Yay one less thing for me to worry about

sorry for the hijack
