Cat 2 Micron Filter Conversion

For whatever reason I've been asked about our Cat filter conversion kit. As everyone knows we have not offered it for over a year. At the time we did not think it was worth while to invest in having more made and just end up with them laying around. Thinking about doing it again but was wonder way the sudden interest? Has something changed that I'm not aware of?

We've gotten a bunch of new CRD owners as they are showing up on the used market. Most of them are running head on into the problems the previous owners put up with too.

Have there been an filters found that the WIF sensor will screw into?

I noticed the Cat head does not have a primer? Does the filter have the water sensor, will it fit our existing non Cat head?

Sure the head has a primer pump. You are taking that off. Water sensor is not a big deal and if you want good filteration something normally has to be sacrificed.

I am one of those new CRD owners. so far I have not had trouble tith my filter head other than when I changed the fuel filter and tried to change out the stock bleader valve. I kept gettin air back in the system overnight. I never could get it tight enough to seal so I went back to the stock bleader.

I think I did not assemble the kit right.

I would buy an improved filter and fuel head if mine were to become a problem.

I came across the CAT filter modification after reading through the posts here on LOST. I was interested in the CAT mod not because I had issues, I just liked the better filtration over stock. Unfortunately I soon found out that it had been discontinued. I would be interested in getting one of these if offered again because I plan to keep my KJ for a while.

Since all 15 of the diesels I ever owned has had a water sensor, and for a good reason. I think I will spend the extra $10 on the right filter to be able to utilize this device. How much would it cost if water ever went through your injector system?

I lie, my Polaris Diesel did not have the water sensor, but it did have a visual means in the fuel filter. I am not going to just drive down the road, hoping no water is in my fuel. :?:

For the new comers it's time for a recap of the Cat filter mod :lol:

What was offered was a fitting that was used with the original filter head. This fitting had one end threaded for the Cat filter and that fitting also holds the two halves of the filter head together. It replaced the original fitting with one that had different threads on one end for the Cat filter.
So far so good? OK fine.

Now some converters found that with the better filtertration the weaknesses of our vacuum fuel delivery system got worse and a lift pump was needed. As some might know you don't have to mount it in the tank. Just about anywhere between the tank and filter head will work.

At about the same time usere were converting their filter heads was when the problem with the fuel heater plugs melting showed up. I personally feel that was totally a coincidence.

The next step was determinig that what is really needed is a better fuel head that uses a better filter but still has our fuel temperature sensor, fuel heater and water in fuel sensor.

This is where the evolution is now.

I see atleast one member here has posted that he has a Racor fuel head installed. I PMed for details.

I plan to keep mine for some time as well. I have a 5 year loan and am hoping to keep it longer than the payments since so far I love the thing.
