| Post subject: | CEL & rough idle |
First, I'd like to salute every member on this forum. I've been visiting on a regular basis the last couple of months and find your involvement in helping and advising quite remarkable, so hat's off! I bought my 2006 CRD Limited last June. Though enjoying the ride last summer, now it's been spending lots of time at the dealer for the last couple of weeks. The CEL came on, with the engine idling roughly, as if it was misfiring or gasping for air (or fuel). First attempt by the shop was fixing fuel feed to the ramp. It didn't do it so they went for the EGR valve replacement. Guess what, didn't do it either! 3rd attempt was replacing the fuel filter head (suspected air leak). Still no luck, the CEL is still on with same symptom Still, I'm puzzled at how complex this situation seems to evolve; so that's why I'm pleading my case to any of you, for hope of sudden enlightment Thx in advance! |

Could you post the engine codes the dealer pulled? It will help to diagnose where the issue is...doubt all those parts needed to be changed only to not fix the issue. It can be a struggle sometimes. |

Welcome! Does it only do it at idle? |

I've submitted a request to the dealer, in order to get these codes... Hopefully, in a timely fashion! About the rattling, it does only occur at idle and only once the engine has attain its normal operating temperature. At start-up, while engine is still cool, the rattling is not felt... |

Howdy - Welcome to LOST codes are critical and I'm not sure what 'fixing fuel feed to the ramp' is. we've had several versions of 'normal' rattling the alternator decoupler pulley the fan belt tensioner pulley engine mounts none of which will set a CEL. a bad glow plug - will make the initial idle rough until it warms up - but the code is obvious. The biggest problem from day one with the CRD has been the lack of training for the Technicians most got a 1 hour video - and that's it - and they don't see enough of them to learn anything. so they can normally change parts based on the code - but after that - most of them are guessing. |
