Post subject:  Fuel Filter Costs (quick survey)

I wanted to buy a new filter today and the dealership said $115 just for the part. This is only the second time I have tried to change the filter. I am almost positive though that I only spent around $40 on the first one. The parts guy also said there was a note attached to the part in the computer that indicated a new wire plug was available for $15.

1. What is the going rate for just a filter/fuel water sep. now?

2. Is it a redesign from the original because of the fire risk?

3. Are these filters rare now?

4. Has anyone purchased this wire? Is it for the bottom of the filter or the housing above?

I suspect the Dealer is smoking flowers from very sexually frustrated female cannabis plants.

They handed me the same price you got plus their 110% over list, then they looked up the filter element with the $39 price.

After I bought the filter, the filter head (that had a new filter element) leaked and I got the whole thing under warranty.

Put the new filter element I paid for a couple weeks ago.

Now I don't know what to do. I tried to tell the guy that I didn't pay that much before AT THEIR DEALERSHIP. I even told him that I came to them because the dealer that sold me the car was going to charge a total of $160 for the full service. I think his exact remamrk was, "well I don't know what to tell you. That's what it says."

Is there another filter out there that works? I looked at two local parts stores and they said no.

They're reading the wrong part number and trying to give you the entire fuel head (it does come with the filter though)

it's labeled fuel/water separator - which is what the maintenance checklist says - but it's filter and head

unless there's a problem - you only need the filter (MSRP is $41.35 - Mopar Parts will sell it for $28.52)

I got mine at Napa.

It was 36.99 but local Napa stores offer Discount to members of AAA southern PA so I only paid 31.99 the part looked exactly like the OEM filter that was on already in every way except the mopar label. They even had it in stock.

I tried calling Pepboys, Advance, and AutoZone all three could not even get it.

What do you do? Take the P/N and order it online from a Jeep parts place. That's how I do it.

hmmm. I'll have to look for a NAPA. I had tried Pep and Autozone. They said dealership item. I just sent a mesage to the dealership explaining the situation. I asked if they could find the element for me under $40 or if they wanted me to find a different dealership to work with. We'll see how that goes.

That sounds fine NOW. I have only bought one filter, and because I couldn't get it at the two local places, I was assuming that it was only available from the dealer. I should have remembered the lesson about assuming

1. I don't have the part number (if I did, I would have given it to the dealership)

2. I figure with the Italian engine, it was going to be hard to find the correct part. I didn't want to get hosed.

So what site is the most trusted for the fuel filter? I would much rather go there to get it.

*** I was typing while you posted about WIX

I have never replaced the head. I know about the fire stuff. Now that I have done all this complaining, I should just go ahead and order the whole thing to replace it. I wonder if that is why Chrysler has the original lookup always include the head because they want people to replace it.

Now that I am past warranty I doubt I can get them to replace it for free. Plus when I checked, there was no evidence of burn or singe on the connection.

Napa part number is FIL 3647 the filter looks exactly the same as the one pictured on the WIX site the part numbers are even very close. I would wager that Napa rebrands WIX

Here is a link to the NAPA filter page if you look on the left you can search for stores by ZIP code,

Mickey and all.

WIX makes NAPA filters so they are the same. The similiar numbers is because NAPA dropps the left most digit of the 5 charecter WIX number making it a 4 digit one so they're mostly the same number. I bought NAPA brand filters from www.fleetfilter.com for $19.21 each plus shipping and NAPA brand oil filters for $3.85 each. Buy a year's supply and save on shipping and your ahead

NAPA Gold fuel filter number is 3647 and wix number is 33647 $19.21
NAPA Gold oil filter number is 1516 and WIX number is 51516 $3.85

Edited to correct URL :?
