| Post subject: | Cheap Code Reader Options |
A little bit of searching on LOST tells me the ScanGuage2 is a great little gadget for the money but that the Monitoring functions don't work well with the Liberty or CRD. So is there a code reader that will read as many codes and cost less without the partially effective monitoring functions? (I want to make sure I can read Tranny codes etc...) OR Would those that have the SC2 recommend it anyway because it can give important readings for diagnosis when needed? Thanks LOSTonians! |

Mine works fine with my KK... I have noticed that the mpg per tank is way off... Also, they usually don't work with CRD's... Mide does though |

Your KK does not have the cludged computer bus the CRD KJ's have |

I have a $100 Innova that I bought at Wal-Mart after the Harbor Freight one did not work. I have never had cause to read a tranny code, so I cannot confirm if it reads them or not. However, as I understand it, getting an OBD II/ CAN reader that can pull tranny codes (or is it ABS?) is difficult because of the convolution of how the systems are set in series. Apparently they can talk to each other, but yet trying to get information off of them from the OBD, somehow, they do not communicate with the OBD. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong? |

The problem with the Scanguage II and the CRD happens when it's left on while driving. It's well documented here My VAG-COM supports the can bus in will not do abs or tranny on the CRD. It says there's a ABS error. |

My Innova 3030 reads engine codes ONLY and is cheap. I am awaiting arrival of the 3160 I just bought to read ABS codes. I'll let you know how it works on our '05. Looks like these usually run around $225 on Ebay. DOC |

I got a Actron 9145 from Advance Auto and it did not work on th eCRD. I tried a Actron ???? and it would not read as well. So I am certain Actron products will not work. As for the ones mentioned above, if anyone can give me a positive feedback that they will owrk I will buy one tomorrow. I still have a CEL I cannot read. I refuse to have the dealer charge me $80 to hook up to the CRD. |

Been very happy with the 3160, it connects, reads engine and ABS DTC's and clears them as well. That Actron does seem to have quite a few bad reviews, the 3160 does not even have a review that is lower then 3 out of 5 stars at Amazon. The 3160, works on both my CRDs, it will not clear a P0610, and even GDE told me he could not do it, and only a dealer erase and reflash would clear this code. |
