OK my older buddy who for the life of me I can’t get to join the LOST group, Has a smoke screen problem.

His ’06 CRD Smokes big time under acceleration and I remember reading something about trying the ORM to see if it fixed the problem and it does. And I mean it dumps big time when accelerating Hard. :D

But not sure what to do next. And couldn't find teh post I was looking for.

What went bad OR what needs to be replaced.

I told him I would run it that way myself. But he wants to fix it.

I don't know that much yet but i'm learning. mine was like that but not as bad as you say his is. I could not call it a smoke screen and be 007. what I did was clean my MAP sensor, it was kinda plugged up with soot. then I unplugged the Mass air sensor on the tube leading from the air box. this puts on the check engine light but I get less smoke now and more mpg.

I plugged it back in again and drove a few days, my fuel economy dropped, so I unplugged the MAF again. I don't like seeing the CEL tho.

check air filter, MAP sensor clean... and if it is driven easy you just might have soot built up that needs blown out

Put two of the above replies together

Air cleaner. It's from a gasoline engine and should be replaced every oil change.
MAP sensor, without Provent and stopping EGR (GDE tune, SEGR, or pulling the plug) it should be cleaned every oil change too

Based on my recent experiences, where I have been having a power loss for MONTHS with some strange behavior during acceleration (including lots of smoke) it might be worth the hassle to pull the two big boost hoses and inspect them. I had a split on the bottom of the one that plugs into the intake, right AT the intake. So it was leaking, but I couldn't hear it until the split became great big and wide.

Thanks I need to clean mine again also. is smokeing more than normal but no where as bad as his.

As you can see my mpg is crap with my CRD, I'm going to do the GDE reprogram and in tank lift pump at the same time.

21.8 is not too bad. I don't get much more than 19 -21 doing mostly around town driving.

Heck, I'm getting that on the highway now, with a massive boost leak! I wonder what it REALLY will be once I get this hose fixed tomorrow.
