This is just a reminder to all of those with a Provent fitted to their CRD,to check it and drain it.
It fills faster than you may think.

A neglected Provent is worse than no Provent at all.

I just set mine up last weekend. not happy with the mount or lack of yet one but I'll work on that.

How often Do we need to check it? is every 2 or 3 thousand miles ok or can it go 6 like an oil change?

I thought I saw a post that claimed there was a valve that popped open if the filter became clogged. I was about to buy one this week. I thought that if it clogged, the valve would pop and the air would continue to blow by into the intake.

The valve is a pressure relief valve to protect from engine pressurisation as a result of an overpressure condition in the closed system. If you have put a stop valve on the end of the drain hose and run it down the back of the firewall - it is easy to drain while your draining the oil at oil change time. However, if you are doing long oil drain intervals, and I mean more than 5000 miles between oil changes, then check it every few months. Your right it does not take long to collect drainable oil but on install it does take some time to saturate the filter medium before you will see it in the hose. I recommend using a clear reinforced PVC hose for the drain that way you can see it building up in the hose.

x2. 2 weeks or so ago I noticed a smell at startup that smelled just like when I ran the EHM. Then a few days later, there was oil on the floor of my garage just in front of the driver's footwell. (I have the Provent [thanks, Bub!] between the battery and the master cylinder) Turns out that the media had saturated and the drain hose had filled in about 7500 miles.

I will no longer neglect draining the oil from the Provent.

How much oil would you say that is? It almost seems like our engines are burning a LOT of oil. I'm surprised our dipsticks don't register lower. (mine does not anyway)

I'd say the hose (about 3.5 feet of 3/8" [I think] hose) collected maybe 8 oz or so. Another estimate others have given is 1 oz per 1000 miles escapes the CCV puck in the form of oil mist that the Provent condenses and collects.

My CCV holds more oil than a Provent, but I find if I fill to the normal range on the dipstick, it rapidly drops to the low level. If I keep it on the low level, I can go 7k or 8k miles before I need to add any more. I think the excess oil gets blown out the CCV.

I really don't think my oil drops that much. I check at every fuel fill. Now I have something else to look more closely at.
