I noticed a few members have their vehicle equipped with 215/85/R16 size tires. Just wondering if the difference between these and the factory size would justify any specific precautions (re-programming or else)...

Reason I'm asking is that I'm about to buy winter tires of this particular size. Makes sense to have taller & narrower rubber boots to face that dreaded season...

No, just manually adjust your calculations on Odometer and Speedometer...if you feel the need. Should not affect the ESP, ROM (Roll Over Mitigation), ABS, BA (Brake Assist), TC (Traction Control) from working properly.

For winter tires, if you are looking at the BF Goodrich Commercial T/A series Load Range E (What I'm running and I love them) there are 2 choices: Highway mileage tread and Highway 'traction' tread. The difference in the mileage is TBD... I don't have any knowledge of any hard number differences. That is just what they were described to me as by name. The REAL difference is that the 'mileage' tread has a solid center stripe down the tread, and the rest is not anything like the knobby blocky tread of the 'traction' ones.

Based on my current off-roading experiences with the mileage treads... For snow I would look for the Traction Tread type. You won't get stuck with the mileage tires (I haven't yet in some REALLY bad glop) but you might have less need for the 4wd with the traction tread. In 2wd mode, my tires have broken loose under power on slippery wet grass a few times.

I actually have a good price for a Toyo WLT1 set (even though prices in Canada are REALLY not as good as in the States!). The thread seems to be a good compromise for commute & country dirt roads, where I live...
