My turbo is blown and the diesal mechanic said he cannot find an aftermarket or a used turbo to replace it. He can only find the one from the dealer and it is $1300. Does anyone out there know of any other options for me? Will a different cars turbo charger fit the CRD? Also, I have been driving with it screwed up for about a month. What else have I possibly destroyed in the process? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. |

Woow how did that happen? That sucks about the turbo. How many miles do you have on the Crd? Did you have any software tune? What type of mods do you have under the hood? Best of luck to you. |

how on earth have you been driving it for a month with a blown turbo? If the turbo is blown, it won't drive, period. There is just no practical way to bypass the oil supply to the turbo, and if the turbo is indeed "blown", it will suck all of the oil out of the engine real quick. I'd get a second opinion. Maybe you just have a split CAC hose. |

Do you have the elephant hose or provent mod? If not are you sure your mechanic isn't just seeing the oil in the intake from the breather hose and thinking your bearing seal is out. The intake will always be a little oily when the breather is hooked to the intake of the turbo. |

You REALLY need a second opinion. I strongly suspect that either you have a boost LEAK as your only problem (if there is a serious power loss issue, but the Jeep can still make it over 45 mph) OR your mechanic is badly in error if the truck doesn't accelerate like it is in quicksand and pulling a train. Trust me on this one: I've done all three: Genuinely killed a turbo (Last February) discovered and drove around with a 2 inch hole in my boost hose (few weeks ago) and drove with NO boost hose connected at all (For a VERY short time at the same time) With either a mild-to-moderate boost leak, the truck WILL still accelerate over 45 mph, but you will be blowing CLOUDS of black smoke out, the engine will be revving higher than it should... (Think 3000+ at 40mph) and performance will be really bad... Usually with a lot of whooshing air noises. There's the hint on the problem. Without a boost hose connected, OR a really big leak... There is next-to-NONE of a chance that the truck will be able to go faster than 45 mph. You will again be BURYING everyone behind you in smoke, but will have less acceleration than someone on a SKATEBOARD. The chances of you driving around for a MONTH with this condition, OR with a truly blown turbo... ZERO. With the truly blown turbo, you wouldn't have made it 20 miles. My engine CONSUMED it's front piston less than 10 miles after I lost my turbo, and that was on the test drive after replacing the thing. |

If you haven't abused your truck, turbo shouldn't go. I agree, make sure it's blown. Take a look yourself. If it spins with no resistance and the shaft doesn't have too much play it could be something else. If it's blown, find out why and if it is, make darn sure there isn't oil in the IC or intake. This could lead to a run away. (Although the FCV should prevent this, I won't try it.) If it is it blown, check out GDE, they have up graded turbos. I don't remember the cost, but if you gotta replace it might as well put a better one on there. |

Looking for oil in the intake won't tell you anything if the CCV is still hooked up. There is always oil in the intake. |
