It should be the 1.25"x1.25" black box labeled BOSCH just behind the battery...near the bottom. |

Shouldn't there be a CEL associated with a glow plug failure? Is your Check Engine Light lit up? |

There certainly is with individual failure but not sure what happens if the relay/controller fails. |

Mine lives in a heated garage that never gets below 50 degrees and it's hard to start after sitting all night. An old VW trick is to glow it twice. (key on, key off then back on) and it starts. I wonder if it could be battery voltage? Mine has it's original Optima |

Its a decent possibility. Once I tossed the Optima about a month ago, all my difficult-starting problems have vanished. I'm plugging it in overnight right now in Virginia, b/c I don't want a repeat of last winter... I'm not interested in roasting another turbo. But with it plugged in outside at 20*, it starts almost by looking at it funny. |

Mine cranked a little slow this morning at 22f but started fine. Time to plug in the slow battery charger over night soon before I get caught in the cold. |

My wife's glow plugs don't work and the indicator on the dash never has come on. It started hard last year with extended crank but always started. Any idea's were to start testing? If the glow plugs are bad will in prevent the light from indicating on the dash. If I put the cluster thru a self test the bulb lights up. Any suggests would be great. Thanks |

As a retired computer tech I suggest you reseat the glow plug relay and clean any dust/sand or corrosion oft of the plug An old VW trick is glowing it twice |

Battery is new this season, I'll try checking the contacts on the relay tonight. Would that prevent the indicator from coming on in the instrument cluster. I not on the Ford and Dodge's even if the relay or connections are bad the indicator and timer still appear as the function is normal, just doesn't glow the plugs. |

The indicator is only on for an instant if at all. Blink and you miss it |

If you ever figure out what Chrysler uses, let us all know. I suspect Chrysler Bean Counters play the slot machines at a local Casino and do the recall when they get three lemons four times in a row. |

I suspect they then go for "all or nothing" on a fifth try |

Our 05 VW TDI energizes the glow plugs when the remote door key is activated. |

I checked the relay and all connections seemed good. Wen't ahead and got 4 glowplugs and replaced them. That job's no fun for someone with big hands. The #3 glowplug will untread but not come out unless the throttle/intake assemble and elbow are removed. Try finding gaskets for the intake for one on these CRD's on a weekend. Autoparts guy looks at you like you got three heads when you say vehicle: Jeep Liberty engine: 2.8 Diesel! The glow plugs that came out tested a .2ohm same as the new ones, so that was a waste of a bunch of time and money. The glow plugs that can out appear to have been work by the color/appearance at the tips. I just think I'm not waiting because the little indicates only for that stort flash as indicated above. It starts every time, just cranks extra long before it fires. I guess I'll just leave it alone. |
