Orders already being taken by VW dealers here in Australia. Toyota is the current market dominator in Oz. Demo vehicles arriving.

Engine for Australia is only two TDI types at this stage.
The 120 kW / 163 PS strong 2.0 TDI with common rail injection has two-stage bi-turbo turbocharging, which generates a torque of 400 Newton-meters at a low 1,500 rpm. Another four-cylinder TDI with 90 kW / 122 PS will follow as a second engine variant in mid-2010. It has a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry and develops a maximum torque of 340 Newton-meters from 2,000 rpm. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

This one is in english:

maybe the US manfu will WAKE up..a small diesel pickup would sell well..

I would think Toyota could give Dodge/cummins a run for the money if Toyota offered a diesel in any pickup model. this should be much of a challenge since they sell diesel to the rest of the world..just not the US..

just my 2 cents

Yeah but Toyoto got their reputation by not having problems  Then they "got above their raisen" and started making big pu's that rust as well as fords and chevies do  As a result their reputation is suffering. Maybe the Toyota lemmings will see the light. As far as possibly seeing anything like this in the US in diesel trim it's going to be the often delayed Mahindra  It's supposed to have a Asin transmission, the brand that works out so well in a XJ and a Bosch controled diesel engine.
As far as Jeep waking up forget it! If they smelled the coffee the 4 door CJ that's selling so well here would be available in the US with the new VM engine now. Even Al Gore would like it's carbon foot print if he got his... never mind, he invented the internet

I've read that Mehindra is trying to bring a small pickup with a 2.2L diesel to the US. They are an Indian company

They have been talked about here in the past. The economic downturn has delayed them. The current ETA is in the spring of 2010

They started making Jeeps under license from Willys after WWII. They are owned by the Tata family and who own such familiar brands as Teatly Tea and Rover. Rover dealers are reportably impressed by their management style

VW owners for the most part are cheap and know more about automobiles then the average Toyota or Honda owner
That means VW has to work harder to get good ratings (read discriminating)

I bought one of the first available 99.5 Jetta TDI's built in Mexico. I found the quality of that car to be very good and remained happy with it for 114k miles and now my son is happy with it. Clean and waxed it looks as good as my 3 year old 30k mile KJ that I have babied and the drivers seat foam is not collasping like on the KJ

I'd rock that VW in a heartbeat. WANT THAT.

To the person who dissed the Touareg, why do you say that they are bad? Granted, the choice of a \/i/\gr/\! based phallic-enhancing V-10 diesel for ONLY the US market (while everyone else got the inline-5 TDI that was perfectly capable (and offered better mpg) was a DUMB decision by VW...

The loading of that truck with some impressive features and a SCARY amount of torque made it a NICE vehicle... But their price point means that even USED, I probably won't ever own one. The one that I drove was great however, almost lifted the front wheels off the ground when I nailed the go-button. Wow what a powerplant.

My 01 Jetta TDI was an awesome vehicle too. I flogged that engine hard and drove it like a go-kart for 150k miles, and the guy that bought it from me was convinced that the odometer was lying to him. The seats were still PERFECT and firm, the only flaw in the interior was that stupid rubber flocking that had flaked off the door handles... And the car ran BETTER and was MUCH faster (with ONLY a set of upgraded nozzles, other wise bone stock) than his OTHER 01 Jetta TDI.

Heck yea I'd get back into a VW again, if they had one that did what I need, which a small / midsize truck would. VW, you listening????
