Ok all got a noise.

First got a noise when I turn right like a wheel bearing is going out (drivers side front). Since it has gotten cold hear in NE Indiana now when I turn hard right I get a grinding noise out of the drivers side front (as well as normal wheel bearing going out sound) but I also get the same grinding noise out of the drives side front when the suspension bottoms out.

Any thoughts? Suspensin, wheel bearing or both?

This is just cut and paste from my maintenance notes:
Quote:
Upper ball joint test:
Set the parking brake.
Position jack under the lower control arm and raise wheel clear of floor.
Lower jack to allow tire to lightly contact floor (most of vehicle weight relieved from the tire).
Grasp the top of the tire and apply force, in and outward. While this force is being applied, an observer checks for any movement at the ball joints between the upper control arm and the knuckle.
If any lateral movement is evident, replace the ball joint.

Lower ball joint test:
Set the parking brake.
Position jack under the lower control arm and raise wheel clear of floor.
Slide a 2x4 under the tire and lift and lower it with enough force to notice any possible play on the ball joint.
If you observe or feel any play, replace the ball joint.

Front wheel bearings:
Wheel bearing cartridges (item #1) are sealed assemblies that can not be lubricated.
They should have almost zero play.
With the front wheel still jacked up by the control arm, grasp each wheel, holding it first at the sides, then at the top and bottom. See if you can rock the wheel in and out, you shouldn't notice any looseness.
Also rotate the tire by hand. Any roughness or noise from the bearings will also tell you the bearings are worn or damaged.
If the bearing needs to be replaced, the right hand side (with ABS) part number is 52128692AE (or AA or AF). The left is 52128693AE (or AA or AF).

These are the big three. I have some notes on the steering gear, rack, etc. if you need.

the 4th possibility would be a CV joint going out - I don't have a good test

Then they quiet down when going straight.

Old test tried and true.

I trained my Wife to check CV joints on customer cars and she rarely opens a hood unless she really need her car.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Warp2 sounds like you think it might be the CV joint?

I will have to take some time to jack it up and play with the tire to see if anything is loose.

Thanks again.

Possibly a motor mt. also. I had a similar noise turning going over a bump and in reverse. Just changed the drivers side Mtr. Mt. and noise is gone. :D

I had the mechanic at my tire shop jump in a take a ride with me to see if he could ID where the noise was coming from. It's coming from the rear end. Got some extra slop in the diff. I know that for sure. Would that extra slop in one of the spider gears make the noise or would it be one of the axle shaft bearings?
