Putting my Liberty back together after a major overhaul and I am stuck on one small thing. I can't get the timing belt tensioner on!

Skipping the long story, i had to buy a new timing back plate and it came with a 10mm bolt and brass nut. Any idea what that is for? I have to have the this jeep running tonight in order to put a few miles on it before I drive to Florida Friday after noon so I am really up against the wall.

So what I have done so far:

Cleaned the head, new head gasket
ARP head studs
New cam seals
Totally cleaned the valve cover/intake manifold
had the turbo turbine and compressor ceramic coated
exhaust manifold got ceramic coated
new egt, trans temp and boost gauge installed

All I really need to do now is get the timing belt on, accessories on, plug all off the harness back in and prey to the diesel gods it start with no major problems. Really stressing out, any help would greatly be appreciated

Cheers,

Jason

hey another Ford Focus Racer! 2001 ZX3 sitting in Germany, it has quite a few trophies as well. Wife and I enjoy racing it as well.

ManI wish I could help, but I do know you have to have a special tool to keep everything aligned when replacing the TB on th eCRD. This might be your problem. Did you look at the parts diagram that has been posted? Maybe the exploded diagram will show the assembly process to you.

We have 3 Foci here and are in the midst of building a Rally America Focus.

As for the tools, I have the cams pinned and the crank is 90 ATDC

I just dont get why I can screw the bolt in for the tensioner, this should be a simple deal for me. Maybe I am way too tired, who knows.

I'm not sure what the bolt that was included is for, but certainly not for the tensioner. I presume that for the tensioner you're trying to reuse the old bolt - if not, do so.

Remember that the bolt hole thru the tensioner isn't in the center. Just line the spring edge up against where it should push against, and rotate the center of the tensioner such that the bolt hole lines up. It only goes together one way really, might just take a little patience and some trickery to get it in there. On the ones I've done, some go together and some require finesse, just depends on the luck of the draw.

If I can find a picture from the manual right quick I'll try and post it up.
