my next oil change is in a week or two and I'm doing it in the oil as a precleaner and in the fuel. when I chage the fuel filter next time I will fill that with seafoam.

Good deal.

So...first you tell him to delute the engine oil ( yeah, that's really good for the rod bearings) then you tell him to fill the fuel filter with sea foam and run that through his CRD system?

BVCRD...for all I can figure out you are clueless of how a CRD engine works.

And I cannot believe what some people in this thread are going to do or are doing to their poor CRD's.

You guys have absolutely no idea of how a CRD system works.

Do they operated that much different than other current year diesels?

When comparing it to a Heavy Duty diesel in something like a dodge for a ford, yes!

I didn't tell him to fill his fuel filter full of Seafoam. He read that on the Seafoam site. I would suggest you go back and carefully read the posts instead of jumping to conclusions!!! I pour it in my fuel tank. Solvents have been used for decades to dislodge deposits in oil passages. The key is to not do it, and then run down the road at 75 mph for 10-15 hours straight. You do it JUST until the engine warms up. Then drain away. Please keep your opinions to yourself. That's just what they are....YOURS!

Could you expand a little? I own a crd Libby a ford 6.0 and a ford 6.4 and there's not a ton of differences other than the obvious size and differences in fuel systems.
What am I missing?

I don't know any thing about the 6.4, but there are plenty, and I'm sure other will chime in

A timing belt in a diesel is BS... Most HD diesel engines use a gear train
Can't say much about the aluminum head.....
The VM motor can't handle the heat that a HD diesel can. The oil pan is aluminum for a reason.
Also, using a 0w oil :banghead: Real diesels use a 15w40....

Don't know about the other diesels but this little baby doll of a jeep we own is in a class of it's own. 0W for me please.

If 0W is the oil of choice in europe where the VM2.5, 2.8 etc. have been in service for decades with thousands of kilometers on them, then I say it's good for mine.

This CRD does wheelies in second while passing 6.0s, 6.4s leaving a patch of rubber on the roof of the heavy duties and a few porsches too.

Can you say over 500,000 miles.

Ha.

Call me when you have 500K on the clock. Like digger mentioned, there are some questionable issues with it's design. I think the jury is still out.

I will eat a lot of the words I have never posted when I see one of the little VM go 500K. Given a choice, I'd take a Cummins any day of the week.... I'd like a CAT, but I don't like paying for parts that are priced like that are made of gold :ROTFL:

You're going to need a stiff drink to help you swallow it and make it all go down, but before you can experience a CRD or speak of one you will need to own one.

I work on my buddies quite a bit and fully know what they are like. I know they can be awesome little power plants as long as you are willing to do a TLC on them that Chrysler was to cheap to do to them.....

About 0W oil. Has anyone looked at the recommendation in the FSM for the export market? Here it is stright out of the manual
It seems they really want a 10W oil :jester:

ENGINE OIL - DIESEL ENGINES - EXPORT
Use only Diesel Engine Oil meeting standard MIL-2104C or API Classification CD or higher or CCML D4, D5.
SAE VISCOSITY GRADE
CAUTION: Low viscosity oils must have the proper API quality or the CCMC G5 designation.
To assure of properly formulated engine oils, it is recommended that SAE Grade 10W-40 engine oils that meet
Chrysler material standard MS-6395, be used in accordance to ACEA B3, B4 specification. European Grade 10W-40
oils are also acceptable.
Oils of the SAE 5W-40 grade number are preferred when minimum temperatures consistently fall below -15° C (5°
F).
