Post subject:  belt tensioner...need advice

Dropped off jeep for belt squeal issue and was told need new tensioner assembly. I mentioned that the pulley portion could be replaced as it os the same as the other two idler bearing units. I was told by the tech that it is not the pulley but the tensioner itself as it wobbles. Am I being rooked? Or is this possible. Thanks in advance as I am waiting for monday for the tensioner to be installed.

First check to see if the alternator pulley wobbles (slightly).

The alternator pulley will destroy the other idler pulleys and tensioner .... it will drag them down by fatique.

I was informed by a friend in europe that the pulleys are made by the following company (among others):
http://www.meyle.com/html/contact/index.php?lang=6 and are available in the usa.

The alternator pulley can be had from this other company: http://www.iat-usa.com/contactus.html

You need to contact them for pricing, not sure how they deal with the public now.

Prices are down to earth.

Definitely the alt clutch.
Had the dealer change the tensioner twice. No dice.
Changed the alt clutch myself and solved my problems.
Cost me 4 bucks to have it put on at the alt. repair shop.

I will look into the alt pulley. In the interim, is it possible the tensioner assembly is bad due to the wobble? I would lke to save some $ and change the pulley only if it is the only part that goes bad on the assembly. Thanks again

Check the alternator pulley first.

The Alt. pulley is causing the tensioner wobble.Trust me!
Change it and wobble goes away.
