Man I wish I had caught this thread earlier, x2 on the NAPA filters. Chances are they're from the same supplier as the OEM filters, and way cheaper. I put mine in 18,000 miles ago with no issues. Trust me, having a lift makes the job easier on the back, but it is still just as messy if not more so.
I wonder if the codes stay so long because they are triggered by the TCM rather than from a sensor feeding info directly to the ECU? I'm curious as to why the codes would take so long to clear on their own, and why you can't clear them as you would any other DTC.
Maybe see if someone in your area has VAG-COM, they can for sure clear the codes.
