The box may not be "fooling" the ECU for some reason. Most boxes work by tricking the ECU into adding more fuel which, in simplicity, means more power. If the ECU is not fooled, then it is dialing back boost in response to increased fuel.
Most times a box works by telling the ECU that there is lower levels of boost so that it will add more fuel to deliver the power your right foot is asking for. If your boost guage is taking readings from the OBD II port, then the boost readings you are getting are the "fooled" readings, which is how the box you installed works in the first place. (If that is the case, do you really want to use a box that could possibly make your engine overfuel and blow itself up?) If your boost guage is independent of the OBD II port (i.e., you drilled a bung into the intake and installed the pressure sensor and wired up the boost guage in the cabin) then you have a problem on your hands that likely would have triggered a turbo underboost code, but is not because of the box fooling the ECU.
