it's on the passenger's side
It's gotten somewhat loud like an electric motor on its last leg
here is a zoomed out view...

Thanks!

That is the vacuum actuator that controls the variable vanes of the turbo. Inspect the little filter on it to see if it is clogged or in otherwise bad shape.

ahh. Thanks...i did look at the filter and didn't see anything visibly suspicious. If the actuator craps out during one of my long commutes, will the jeep still run? I suspect the vanes will merely be stuck in one position (hopefully open), but will the ECU lock me down somewhere on the highway?

Of my two CRDs only one makes a loud buzzing noise, the other does not make any noise at all. Both seem to work as they should.

I once heard one of mine buzzing as loud as the engine when I pulled in the garage. I gave it a smack and it quit - haven't heard it in over a year. Normaly they're silent.

At first look I wanted to say "It's what makes time travel possible". But no, it's just for vacuum.

...Ok, back to my cave in the KK section...

:ROTFL: It would not surprise me if there is a device under the hood of a CRD at allows for time travel..... There is more than enough doo doo under that hood :ROTFL:

Oh and of coarse it's all in the way of the upper strut bolts :juggle:

It is for time travel - i.e., "jinstall" pulling 11:52 on the Nurburgring in his. . .

Didn't get a chance to post right away, but the buzzing stopped (sans smacking) and hasn't returned. Just one of those weird things i suppose. Thanks for the replies!
