I've been running the ORM for over a year now, thus I always have a CEL. I was thinking for the sake of vehicle health, that I should undo the ORM to see if I still get a CEL for other issues.
The question is, how many engine cycles until the CEL will go out if there are no other engine issues?

liberty2.8,

Most codes that set the CEL should turn off within 3 drive cycles (usually require a soak between cycles to reset). Do you have access to a decent scanner to check codes?

I have had mine off to and plugged it back in after a few weeks. it takes like 4-5 cycles for the CEL to go out.

Just buy a cheap code reader to check the codes, some here even leave it plugged in all the time.

Thanks for the info. I will probably go to Auto Zone and have them read codes, if any, after several cycles. I think I did this 6-8 months ago and there were some codes that they cleared but I got impatient and redid the ORM right away, so back to the CEL.

Sir Sam, if I knew of a cheap code reader that wouldn't cause problems, I would consider this option. I have read multiple threads here that there have been issues with leaving some code readers hooked up all of the time, thanks.

It's the better scanners that cause problems if left attatched while driving :dead: I think the reason is they interogate our busy buss and get things confused. Cheap ones just get and clear codes. I have a VAG-COM setup and it reads a lot about the engine but looses communications if left on while driving. This seems to be normal with better units. I have a el cheapo HF scanner and it reads and clears codes fine with the key on and engine stopped and then disconnecting it.

My cel turns off with one key cycle after I plug the MAF sensor back in...?

On a side note, my jeep went into limp mode the other day and i plugged the MAF back in and the CEL stayed on. I killed it and started it back up and it ran right again but the CEL has not gone out since. Again yesturday it went into limp mode and i couldn't get it over 40 mph. The idle is a little rough also. Could that be related to running the ORM? If not where can i get a decent but cheap scanner?

I bought mine in the automotive section of Wal-Mart for $100. It is an Innova, not sure of the model number. As long as I plug it in and scan right after shutting the Jeep off after a drive cycle, I have not had a problem.

*Edit* It is a model 3100.

So my 2006 CRD has a regular OBDII port? Where is it located?

If you open the driver's side door and squat down and look under the dash, and you should see it. I think it is blue? Once you find it, you'll know it by feel when you stick your hand under the dash.

I have not had any CEL other than what I caused so I have had no need for a reader so far but if I would want to buy one whould this one be OK

http://www.xtremediesel.com/actronobdiipocketscancodereadercp9125.aspx

I would realy just want something simple.

I've always found that if I let the Jeep sit for a while before I try to read codes, it won't pick them up. If I need to read a code, I make sure I drive it up to operating temperature, then when I stop and turn it off I plug in the scanner and turn the key to "On" and it picks up my codes.

Another question related to checking/reading codes, should I unplug my Edge Trailjammer before reading codes or at least return it to stock mode?

Went to local parts store and had codes read with 7 codes found:
P0234
P0102
P0069
P1261
P1265
There were 2 other codes but didn't get them. He cleared codes but they came back after one engine restart.
This was with the Edge left hooked up on tow tune. Forgot to return to stck tune before I had codes read even though it shouldn't matter.

Any clue what these codes mean?

Wow Linewarbr, the codes were here right under my nose. Thanks for the info. Now I just gotta figure out what they mean or if I can ignore.

Well, I see the codes and there related description but does anyone know what having these codes means and could they be related to having a tuner hooked up to engine? Should I worry about these codes?

It very likely may be the Edge that's causing it, but usually boxes "fool" the ECU into feeding more boost/ fuel or a combination of both, to give more power.

The ones I would be concerned about would be the glow plug codes, check the wires for proper impedance. (Not an electrician, so I'm not sure if you're checking volts or amps - there are some on this board, i.e., ATXKJ that could help much more with the glow plugs. . .)

Has it been running bad, or giving you any other symtoms besides the CEL? You may try going back to stock and clearing the codes, that would help you determine if it is the box or something bigger.

Yep, I had planned on switching back to stock or completely removing from system prior to checking codes. What I will do is return to stock config and rewire to bypass Edge. Then plug MAF back in and run for several cycles to see if CEL goes off or at least have codes read again.

  GO SAINTS

And no, there has been no indication of any problems of significance, just wanted to see if plugging MAF back in would clear CEL.
