Ok GDE advised me to put my transmission temperature sensor in the pan. I was going to use the cooler return line just before it dumps back into the pan. I regard the pan tapping as a more major piece of work than a T fitting on the return line. What say you, those that have done it. Where is the best place, and does it give a good indication of what the temp situation is in the box? ![]() |

If you get the PML trans pan, they can drill it out for you. That's where mine is at. |

I'm about to install a tranny temp sensor also and am wondering with the PML pan if the sensor won't be reading low. I thought the fluid in the pan is replenished by the return line from the cooler and is before the tranny gets it and is at a temp before the tranny has a chance to heat it up. I guess the in the pan sensor might give a better reading of the fluid while it is still cold and before the trans pump turns on to circulate it, but I wonder if it isn't more important to have a more accurate reading of the tranny fluid temp as it exits the tranny thus providing a better indication of the actual temp of the tranny itself. I am not a transmission mechanic and if this is wrong or you have a better explaination of this please help me understand and learn. Thanks. (Before I start cutting, drilling and taping!) |

You know there is already a transmission temperature sensor in there, it feeds temp data to the TCM & ECU and should be accessible with a Scangauge off the ODBII bus. Not sure where it is exactly. |

The factory trans temp sensor is in the valve body right where the fluid is sucked into it. The temperature of the fluid in the sump is what you want to measure since it is what controls the trans operation. The cooler lines change flow rate depending on whether the trans is in lockup or not and will give you false readings. |

Epoxy a thermocouple to the dipstick. No drilling required. |
