My build date is 02/05. Would mine have the mismarked dipstick? Reason I ask is because I put 6.5 qts. of oil in yesterday and it's not even up to the "MIN" mark on the dipstick. |

How long did you wait between running and checking? it takes at least 30 minutes for the oil to drain out of the top of the engine. (Don't know about dip stick marks) |

I drove it to work (15 miles)...let it sit for 4 to 5 hours...then checked. It's WAY below the MIN mark...with no leaks that would cause this. So either the dipstick is WAY wrong, or this takes more than 6.5 quarts. |

I found a few older posts - but they all sound like 6.5 quarts should have shown up on the stick http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=440852#p440852 Ranger1 said it took 7.0 to hit full http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7964&p=77064&hilit=dipstick+mark#p77064 http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=76980#p76980 |

My first oil change, I put in a stock oil filter and 6.1 liters (6.45 quarts) of oil and found that the dipstick showed just under MAX. I have the '06 though. |

Are you sure you put in 6.5 quarts? Is it possible you thought you had a 5 quart jug and really had a 4 quart one? I think they all have the same dipstick. The problem is our understanding of what the MAX mark means It does not mean safe or full.

when I changed mine it took about 6.5 quarts. but that amoumt did not seem like it was going to be enough at first. I decided to wait and see if more oil dropped to the pan and it did. It takes about 5 -10 minutes to get a good reading when the oil is warm and 15 or more when filling a cool engine with fresh oil. I use ramps to do my oil changes so when the jeep is up on those its not close to level, I just dump in the right amount then start it, look for leaks again then back it off wait and check the level. if the oil level is well between the add and max marks your good to go. another thing what oil filter did you use? the standard size or something that might be bigger? |

I am using a Purolator filter. And yeah, I put at least 6 qts. in there and it's not even to the MIN mark. |

There was some disscussion not long ago about differnt filters that are larger than standard and hold more oil. I thought you may have one of those but I don't think that is one of them. here is the thread I was thinking of http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=45840&hilit=big+oil+filter |

The purluator is almost exactly the correct size, my 05 when full with 6.4 qts is approx 1/8' above the min mark on the dipstick. I have seen the original tech bulletin and my correct mark was scribed in on the dipstick . My CRD came with first 60k of free oil change and I have done 3 since, each time I add 6.5 qts and I am slightly above their mark by a hair. |

I have read that most of the CRD dipsticks overstate oil level. Do not rely on the full mark on the stick to determine how much oil to put in. Instead, put the required amount of oil in and measure with the stick. That is the new full mark on your vehicle. On mine, full is above the Min mark, and is on the M of Min. Also, I find that the measurement is inconsistent depending on the slope of the pavement. Small differences in slope seem to cause the level to change a lot. Find a consistent position for your jeep to take your oil checks. |

Chrysler computer system for techs, it is called a service note |
