Dear Sir, I am writting this letter out of shear frustration. On 9/2/2009 my wife and I took her 2005 Liberty CRD, 69659, 48,542 miles, in to Mc Brayer Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep dealership because the trouble light came on. On 9/12 we were told that it was fixed and we could pick it. We drove less than two miles with smoke spewing out the exhaust pipe. Cars were literally pulling over to get out of our way, I guess they thought that we were on fire. We took the car back to the dealership and were told that oil in the exhaust system was causing the smoke and if we just drove it it would burn off. (The car now has over 50,000 miles on it almost all of it put on by the dealership.) I refused to take the car home until it stops smoking. Some time later I was told that after replacing nearly every part on the engine it still smoked and that we would be getting a new engine. After waiting again I called and was told that the new engine had arrived and was beinginstalled. I went to the dealership, went in the shop and found my car on the lift with the new engine sitting in its' crate. I asked the mechanic how long he thought it might take to get our car back and he told me he had no idea on how to put the new engine in ! I called and E mailed customer support who passed me back to the dealership. It is now 2/1/2010, Mc Brayer has had my car for 5 months put over 1200 miles on it and I still don't know what's going on. Everytime we call it's the same - "We're working on it....." I think that I've been more than patient and have tried to work within the system but I'm tired of being put off. I'm hoping that someone will look into this matter and fix it. Excuse me for saying so but I can't believe that this is the way to run a car company. |

What did they say caused the CEL? You could have a blow CAC(intercooler) hose, a broken pipe on the EGR system, a bad intake gasket, a EGR that has failed and is stuck open, a failed turbo, etc, etc. Would it be possible to get the codes that is showing from the dealer? If they can't fix it in 4 1/2 months, you need to take it somewhere else. |

I'm wondering why you weren't talking to a lawyer 2 months ago... ![]() |

Ouch, that stinks! I'm not sure I would have the patience to wait this long before I chewed someone out... I hope you get a response, but no promises ![]() This is exactly why I didn't care that my CRD was out of warranty when I got it.... ![]() |

The most ridiculous part of the whole thing is that it is most likely something simple, like a burst CAC hose. Black smoke in a diesel is a sure sign of overfueling, which is usually the reslut of not having enough boost pressure to compensate for the amount of fuel introduced at the combustion cycle. These engines are not known for suffering major internal catastrophic failure without a prior failure of a peripheral system - a la geordi's blown turbo leading to an oil starved #1 cylinder. Too bad you can't get the dealer to give you all the money for Chrysler's warranty work, put on new CAC hoses, and pocket the rest. . . |

Do I think you will get a response? No. |

since you are under some type of warranty and they need to get it fixed for you I would do as others sugested. See if there is a dealer that knows more about the CRD and see if you can have it all taken there. Contact a lawyer if needed. Writing that letter was a nice first step into starting legal action and shows you have been patient and more than understanding when a lawyer get involved. I would have done it before this tho. I would Laugh my stupid off if it was a bursted CAC hose and they ordered an engine they couldn't even install. |

Is the dealership at least giving you a rental? Threaten to go to the local news with this... you might be surprised how quickly they fix your problem ![]() |

That is hard to believe, that engine to install is no different then a gasser in most aspects. I have never heard of such a thing, does Idiocracy run the service dept. there? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I can bet the mechanics resemble the 5 smilies. |

Is it clear now, why our chances of seeing a diesel wrangler in this country are getting really slim, quite rapidly.... |

I was waiting for you to say they put a gaser in there without realizing the difference. |

This has been the story with most all CRD's in the US. It was just a marketing test and I think they want us to just go away ![]() |

Yes I hope you are in a rental and are beating the hell out of it too. The fact they admitted they can't install an engine shocks me. I mean its a service Dept. Not saying that I could myself but man that is their job. Truckbouy you may be on to something about why no more diesel jeeps have made it to our showrooms. That and California Air Resources Boards feeling that they need to make the efficent diesel a scape goat based on engines of the past belching particliate emmissions and all. I would say if you can't get a lawyer call the news media I'm sure where ever you live they have something Like "News 8 on your side" where they air consumer related issues. its very easy to call the station or find that reporter's email and see if they are intrested in making it a story. |

Actually when I was a kid, I changed the engine in a Chevette with a Come along hanging in a tree. Could you imagine what I could have done with a fully equipped garage? Where is this dealer any ways, and why do you stay there and let them abuse you? You might be better off asking a local member of LOST with no ASsE certification to help you. Where are you located, if you were close enough I would even help you. ![]() Anybody near Moore NC? |

I sent copies to : C. Robert Kidder - Chairman. Sergio Marchionne - CEO Doug Betts - Senior VP. Walter Bodden, Jr. - VP & Treasurer. Chrysler Group LLC Customer Assistance Ctr. These are the only name I could find on the net. If anyone can point me to the regional managers I'd appreciate it. If I don't get results from this mailing the next mailing will go the press & every politician I can think of ! |

A NEW engine, wow, how lucky. I would take the new engine and the car with the old engine and scoot. I never counted on Jeep warranty, never trust jeep/chrysler dealers. You could have something that will get almost 30mpg for 500K to 1 million miles!!!! A back yard scrounging foo' would love your sit-U-ation. You must be rich or a Yuppie, if they make them any more. ![]() |
