Post subject:  Bad EGR, Brake Moan Update

Took the CRD into the dealer Friday for driveability/mileage issues, low coolant, and continued brake moan. They did a flash they said will cure the stutter at highway speeds, and they are completely disassembling the rear calipers to clean/lube them to see if that fixes the moan. The also said I need a new EGR, which is on order. The vehicle only has 12,000 miles on it. I've never had a new vehicle need this much service. Thank goodness for warranty. :?

as for the brakes on my 2004...

1st they couldnt reproduce the noise (driving to the dealer warmed everything up)

after the vehicle sat at the dealer overnight they heard it and did the adjust/lube

that lasted all of 100 miles so they finally replaced the rear pads and rotors iaw tsb 05-001-04

no problems since

Got the CRD back from the dealer today. Turns out the Service Manager had ours mixed up with another. EGR is fine, but all for calipers and rotors are on order for replacement. They said some coolant drop is normal due to air bubbles, etc. in a new vehicle. I will keep an eye on it. Tech seemed real friendly. He said you would know immediately if the EGR failed, as motor would run like crap and would throw error codes. Hopefully the new brakes will solve the moan problem.

I too have complained of lots of brake moan to the dealer. Even though I have a great dealership the service manager says there is nothing from DC re brake moan. What did your dealer say about the replacement of the brakes for warr purposes? I'd like to take that info to my service rep. Thanks

Unfortunately I think the answer is it just has to get bad enough that they cannot deny something is wrong. Ours got absolutely terrible. Make them keep your Jeep overnight and I bet they'll hear it when they test drive in the AM. When I was standing in the service department, another Liberty (not a diesel) came in with the brakes moaning, and the service manager and the tech said in unison "Liberty brakes." They know there is a problem.
