Post subject:  Turbo heat shield bolts

Do you guys think it would be bad to operate the crd without the heat shield on the turbo?

When i installed my egt probe i only re attached the heat shield by one bolt, (due to the fact that the probe hits the shield) that bolt has apparently worked it's way out.

The heat shield is in there vibrating away.
I'm no where near my home, so i cant access my removed bolts, can anyone tell me the size and thread pitch/lenght? I'm sure i can find one.

They should be M8 x 1.25 with a 13mm hex head, the thread length is only about 1/2 inch or so. Long term, you could cut away the portion necesary for the thermocouple and hopeully still have three mounting points. Removing the heat shield entirely may cause melting of plastic parts in the vicinity if trailer towing on a hot summer day. Good luck.

Thanks GDE, they were in fact, m8-1.25x15

I was able to use one m8-1.25x15 (front passenger side) and one m8-1.25x45 (furthest back near the head) to secure the shield, i'll figure out the front head side bolt when i get home, thanks alot.

I had to use a longer bolt than what was apparently stock (15mm?) because the rear of the heat shield is riding on top of the probe, i had been wanting to do this for some time but i simply forgot about it, and i paid for it.
