Post subject:  Quick question about tires and lift...

Hey everyone...
I have a quick question about tires. What is the largest size I can fit in a stock CRD? Also, anyone have some recommendations about a good tire for light off-road, snow and rain? Gotta love this midwest weather. Plus, is there an inexpensive lift I could do like a body lift or neoprene pucks? I had one of the puck lifts on my 94 ZJ and it worked well. Thanks!

Here's a table by Darby that is helpful:

I was running Yokohama H/T S 245/70's which were adequate in the snow and light-moderate off road. I'm having a set of Michelin LTX A/T 2 225/75's put on Saturday. Probably a little better off road and will probably last longer (got 35K out of the Yoko's). May not corner as well if I were to rally race the Jeep, but I'm not planning on that.

I'm partial to the General Grabber AT2. They are rated for severe snow use, they do better offroad than your average AT, yet they are still great in the rain (#1 in hydroplaning resistance according to Consumer Reports), have a 60k mile tread warranty, and are priced lower than the competition. It's basically the closest you can get to the perfect do-everything tire.

For a cheap lift, do the Daystar spacers. Works great and saves money. One day when I'm wealthier I'm going to do a full spring suspension though.

So I have been looking around at the Daystar 2.5" pucks and most of the websites are stating they are NOT for CRDs. Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks!

I had a Daystar 2.5" on the front (switched to OME now)
The problem was/is the drivers side CV is shorter on the CRD
so it very, very easy to tear the CV boot and just plain hard to install

HUH? That's the first I've ever heard of this. Why would they make a completely different front axle for the CRD?

I have been told that same thing but I beleive there is a spacer lift for the CRD and I thought it was a Daystar kit for the CRD.

The front axle isn't different, it just sits further to the left in the CRD chassis, to clear the oil pan. It also sits lower than the gas models. The driver's side CV is shorter and the passenger's longer on the CRD.

This still doesn't really clear whether I can use the pucks or not or where I can get some pucks that would work for the CRD. Also, is there a body lift or anyone with one? Thanks.

You cannot do a body lift - if the body is not separate from the frame.

the 2.5 Daystar will physically fit - but expect a difficult install and a high probability of tearing a CV boot.

I think Daystar also makes a 1.5" lift that they advertise will fit the CRD and should be a lot easiler to install. (KJ09123)

I always get my stuff from www.rockymountainsusp.com. Good selection and prices. However, I'm not happy with the way my CRD sits so much lower in the front than the back. I don't remember having this issue on my previous Sport model with the exact same spacers. This time around it just looks plain silly. I'm going to end up having to lift the front end higher somehow.

This is because the pucks used are designed for gasser spring rates. By adding them to the CRD springs, you are going to cause a larger percentage of spring rate, which will result in more lift.
