Hello Fellas,

Let's say, hypothetically, that your Jeep CRD had a brand new EGR in it.
And let's say that you installed the GDE.

One might notice a smoother idling and running engine, yet sound more like a diesel should.
The turbo would spool up much better, it would pull better, and have alot more pep.

And let's say, hypothetically, that you were running down the highway.
One might see:

Slightly more boost. From 6 psi to 11.
Less fuel rail pressure. From 15K psi down to 10K.
And EGTs drop from 850* down to 600-625*.

And, all this while getting 34.3 MPG. Yes, you read right.

Hypothetically.

I'm just sayin'.....

Hypothetically...the ECO and HOT tunes should deliver the same fuel economy if driven conservatively. In reality, this is proving to not be the case. Not sure of all the reasons for this, but the incentive to push the "go" pedal might have something to do with it on the HOT tune. We would highly recommend the ECO tune for those desiring to maximize fuel economy and the HOT tune for those with after-market torque converters looking for maximum passing and towing capability...Hypothetically!

So are you saying that I should send my ECU to GDE the first week in April when my wife goes on vacation for a week leaving me her car?

What will be your justification for driving her car constantly after she gets back?

...Or, your answer when she asks if you replaced it with a better performing clone? :SOMBRERO: :pepper:

"Honey, I noticed a lose hose on the Jeep. I wasn't sure what to do at first, so I drove your car. Once I fixed it, it seems to run a lot better. Who knew?"

"Honey, I noticed that your Jeep is driving 'differently' all of a sudden... It sounds different, and the acceleration isn't like it used to be. I think I should probably drive it for a little while; at least, until I can figure out what's going on."

Big Montana- Send it out as soon as possible. That way it will be back sooner.

flman- water temps- don't know about that. I reckon a coolant temp gauge waiting to get its sensor hooked up could hypothetically answer that question. I was kind of (only) wondering that myself.

I am just saying, if they tried to pinch any more economy out of the Libby, there would be more low water temp complaints. But from my point of view, I have never owned a vehicle based on its economy ratings, I like diesels for the torque, reliability, longevity, simpler operation, and less maintenance.

flman- For me, also, that is the beauty of this vehicle. All those points you mentioned, plus with the sophisticated engine management controls of today, a diesel engine could/should also be economical.
It's just a shame that DC missed the boat on this opportunity.
I believe we are the lucky few who can have our cake and eat it too.
And hats off to GDE for being the baker.

I think that the EPA has manufacturers so scared to death that we end up seeing diesels being really held back in this country. I don't blame Jeep. They did what they could do within the rules of the government (which I don't agree with...but that's another story) to bring a diesel SUV to us. GDE just made things a lot better for us...but if you read the fine print they admit that it's illegal technically to run a GDE tune on the road. So I wouldn't say Jeep screwed up. I'm just glad there are guys like at GDE to take something with potential and bring out that potential for us.

The government just keeps changing the rules. Manufacturers have spent Billions (real earned ones not the printed up type from the treasury) on clean diesel engines. EPA just keeps changing the mix.
This is the definition of treason in my book. Go ahead, invest, we (the govinmint) will make sure you never make any money.
