Decided to ask this question separately, just to put my mind at ease, regarding injector failures.
If you have a faulty diesel injector ...that's either overfueling, or underfueling a cylinder. ... will you be able to hear it in the car's idling, or feel it in the power when accelerating?? Or see it in the fuel consumption??

Engine will miss, knock, and not run smooth. I think you hit the nail on the head with the low oil problem any ways? If the injector were to be leaking fuel, it would have most likely over filled the crank case.

I once had a 1978 VW rabbit that had a injector that would hang up and not closing when warm. The engine sounded exactly like it had a rod knock :banghead:

But that was an old machanical system. But as mentioned you would notice a rough idle too :SOMBRERO:

not to mention if an injector stuck open it would put out a lot of white smoke (unburnt fuel in the exhaust)

I agree with the other posters. An injector stuck open will cause bad smoking plus unmistakable nailing and possibly fuel in the pan. An injector stuck closed will cause an unmistakable misfire. Either one of these scenarios will trip a code and probably initiate limp mode.

If I were you, I would set my mind at ease about having a bad injector. Based upon what you described in your other recent thread, you don't. Based on that thread, you had a lubrication problem which is now solved.

Early predetonation. It is comparable to pinging in a gasser. It usually occurs from residual diesel in the cylinder on the compression stroke. The causes are poor injector pattern due to cone coking, or from a leaking injector.

X 2 on symptoms of stuck open injector. Since we have a common rail system, the CP3 pump would be spraying as much fuel that could flow through the injector depending upon how far it was stuck open. If it were just a poor needle to seat sealing problem, the engine would knock, run bad, and blow out lots of white smoke. If the injector was fully stuck open you would have a Mega Problem and blow out lots and lots of white smoke and knock very bad.
Unlike our Common Rail Diesels, the older mechanical pumps that ran at much lower pressure, combustion gasses could bleed back into the lines and injection pump and cause one cylinder to miss and sometimes the next one in the firing order as well and sometimes the next two. My old 6 Cyl Perkins Turbo Diesel would pull the multi cylinder miss with only one bad injector. A lot of the inline pumps and the Bosch VE pump on the VW (and some Cummins) had delivery valves and would not do the multi cylinder miss stunt as long as the delivery valves were good. My Perkins had a CAV Bean Counter Special Injection Pump.

I have noticed that since I pulled the MAF plug for ORM, that the engine is slightly louder with a more tinny ping sound. Is this OK? It sure runs better with more predictable throttle response. And no smoke.

That is what it is supposed to do when you do the ORM. The reason that it sounds more diesely, is because it is now getting much more O2 into the combustion chamber, and the fuel can ignite like it is supposed to. No more eating it's own crap from the EGR valve.
