LOST JEEPS :: View topic - Fumoto Oil Drain GB Update

I'm about to foam at the mouth to get mine as I have 4000 on the Liberty and want to change the oil over to a better diesel oil, Mobil 1 Truck & SUV/Delvac 1 5w-40 synthetic oil, as soon as possible.

The adaptor which is being made in a machine shop in CA should be arriving at Greg's business by first of the week where they will be mated to a drain valve. Just to be sure everything is correct and there is no problems with fit, my CRD will recieve the first adaptor and valve. I will post that info and pictures on my website or maybe here once I have mine installed. Then they will be shipped to those in the group buy with Lubrcation Specialist.

There is to be only 100 of these made to start with so better jump on the bandwagon if you like the thought of ending the messy oil changes in the CRD. Not to mention ending the posibility of damaged oil pans from cross threaded plugs, and having to replace the pan. These plugs in the CRD are what is refered to as a @$#% thread in the machine shop jargon and has no way to insert a repair plug, as often has to be done from some monkey cross threading the plug.

The only troubling thing about this is that the plug is the lowest point on the engine. Adding an extension onto it will leave it hanging down where a rock can knock it off :evil:

. I worry enough about getting it on a rock without adding a weak point. The oil filter is also pretty exposed, but at least it is a bit higher than the bottom of the engine. I thinkwhat I really need is some armor.

That said, I'd love to be able to change oil without getting coated in that black goo.

If your that concerned, as I was, you should just change it. I dumped mine at 1750 miles and my oil consumption/loss stopped immediately. Just turned 4400 miles this morning.

Yea I had a fumoto valve on my powerstroke, it made life a lot easier. Im interested.... whats the model number? and is there an option with or without the nipple and safety clip

I think you can get it with or without the nipple and I'm not sure which model he's using for sure, but check with Greg and he can give you all the info. I'm just a friend of Greg's, not a business partner or employee. I'll be payiong the same price as you guys for this little gizmo.

If the skid gets banged in and damages the brass nipple, it will be easy to just cut it off. This whole thing is only about 1 3/4" long to hang down. The adapter is designed to fit in the pan to allow for full drain of oil. Wife just came in, so I'm off to install the transfer case skid plate.

By the way if you don't have the Trans skid plate the drain plug, pan and oil filter are exposed. The oil filter is the most easly damaged of the two, it just hanges out in the air with nothing protecting it from road debries. All it will take is a light tap from a road gator (truck tire tread) or a rock from a tire to leave you stranded. I just put the transfer case on this afternoon in my garage and notice the tranny skid had a rubber mark from a truck tread on the thing across the opening for oil drain to over by the oil filter and up on the frame. Thought about asking the wife when she hit the tire tread, but figured it wasn't worth the effort. I guess I better get the fuel tank guard next before she hit's a 2x4 on the road and polks a hole in the tank.

Hey OldNavy .. sorry about not getting back to you .. seems we worked 12-14 hour days in Sikeston over the past week ... then I had to drive up to Zumbrota ( present location ) Hopefully back to Green Bay tomorrow night/Friday morning. Can't wait to see pics of the Fumoto ... ooh almost forgot .. GarrettP from the old TDI club says hi ... said you were a cool guy .. so you got that reference going for ya ...

Just got off the phone with Greg and he told me the prototype should be in hand about the end of next week. Then will test it (oldnavy I presume). Won't be ready for sale until about 6 weeks from now. When it is ready he'll announce it.

Cool you got hold of him and got all the facts. It's been rather hectic here (daughter & grandson just moved in 2 months ago), wife has gone back to college and every time the grandson kits a sniffle, I get sick. As I am this morning with a big time sinius infection again. Second time this month. I won't bore you with details, but it's rough being the father of two kids again at 60 plus. Back to the laundry room for me guys. First excuse I can come up with I am taking another road trip, I need a vacation. I may go visit a buddy in Jackson MS for a weekend in near future.

New to this forum. Have an '05 CRD with ~23,000 on it. No major problems to date. Where can I obrain this valve? Sounds like something I need along with the Tras skid plate. Dave Wright Mequon, WI

I've actuall known garrett since high school ... I 'm one of the few who still call him Gary ... he's always been one of those guys who does a lot of everything .. right now he has a job welding on some huge tanks for some ventilation company ... I forget the name.

Noticed the same with Rotella 5W40, oil useage virtually nil since switching to it. IMHO, if you can't get a Provent installed for some time after you buy the vehicle, at least switch over to 5W40 to minimize what gets sucked out thru the CCV.

Well every time I check it the oil is fine, and has come down about 1/8" from the lined. Thought it had dropped 1/4" but I guess I checked it too soon after shut off. I just want to get in a better oil and had wanted to do it in the 4000 to 5000 range and I want to get a Fumoto valve installed for future oil changes.

Greg called me today and told me I might have the new adaptor & Fumoto Drain Valve for fit install testing by the weekend.
