There is a CRD for sale locally at the Dodge Dealership. I have some questons. What are some of the problem areas to look to look for while looking at the vehicle. The dealership is asking 12,900 for a 2005 CRD with 70,000 miles. The price seems kind of high hopefully I can talk them down to $11,000. Will the CRD be able to handle towing a 1969 mach 1 It's about 3,400 ILB. With a trailer I figure I would be close to the towing limit of the CRD.

First things first, they are defininitely asking too much. I wouldn't pay more than $10,500 for a CRD with 70K miles, particularly if I don't know the service history.

Problem areas are the EGR valve, boost hose failure caused by oil from the CCV puck, air-in-fuel issues (check the right-hand plug on the filter head for scorching), and torque converter problems for some.

Where are you located? There may be a local LOST member that can either help, or may have one for sale.

I guess I got ripped then, because I bought a CRD with 75K on the clock for $16K and felt pretty good about it. :o

Legally, you can't tow that. It would exceed the 5,000 lb. max limit unless your trailer is VERY lightweight. Realistically the CRD will tow it and you won't know it's back there...just don't get in an accident. I tow a 2,200 lb. flatbed carhauler occasionally with a 4,000 lb. 4x4 rig on it and even the 5% grades in TN won't bother the CRD.
