Post subject:  Painless Striker modules are on clearance - FYI
The painless Striker I, Striker II, and Striker fuel economy modules are on clearance. If you were thinking about it, now is the time. I just bought one mainly for the boost pressure and fuel pressure monitoring function and will play around with the idle fuel pressure and performance levels/fuel economy mode. It should be here monday. Summit and Jegs are still selling these at their normal prices (i think 235ish for the striker I) so a good deal if there are any left.

Anyone have good /bad experiences with these Painless modules?

I have been using it since November...... the best part about it is being able to lower the fuel rail pressure so that the engine settles down while idleing eliminating the excessive shake and rattle.

This module along with the new TC and pump I had installed, tamed my vehicle to a presentable beast and the way it should have arrived from the factory.

I noticed in the module manual it mentions lowering the idle pressure below factory may make it hard to start. Any issues there? What idle setting are you running? -2?

The setting that works on mine is -2 and it doesn't stall.

Set it and let the computer module learn as you drive. The engine noise, shake and rattle is reduced as you continue to drive. It gets quiter and smoother as you drive.

I don't fool around with the other settings, I left those stock.

I just installed mine yesterday and I noticed quite a difference. It seems to respond much better to throttle input at low speeds and at highway speeds with a power level +3 much better pull. When I set it to 5 for a short while on the highway I did get shutter out of the torque converter and so I backed it down to +3 again and no problems.

So I actually never got mine. They ran out of stock :( Aww well...may be a good excuse to foot the bill for GDE tune. :D

I just ordered the Striker II module.
I didn't see a need for all the additional features of the striker I.
So, when it arrives, we will see how it does. 8)

No additional engine hardware is necessary with the GDE tunes, especially products that interpret and adjust sensor values prior to being read through the ECU. Daisy chaining aftermarket products is not recommended and could be a quick way to cause something to go wrong with the hardware. We have not tested competing products like this one, does it only change the fuel pressure sensor reading or does it do something else as well?

I looked into ordering one and they will not sell to anyone with a California address. You would think some disclaimer would do. A lot of folks run the EHM or ORM all by themselves.

GDE, thanks for all your hard work on your tune, hopefully I will purchase it sometime this year after I upgrade my torque converter. :)

Here's my understanding of the Painless Striker module...

It links into/modifies the fuel pressure and Boost pressure.

It has several functions:

Idle compensation (basically changes idle fuel pressure up or down in small increments)
Boost gauge (displays real time boost pressure)
Fuel Pressure gauge (displays real time fuel pressure)

Power levels are 1-10 (1-3 safe for cold engine, 4-10 at operating temp)
Economy mode (basically just changes fuel rail pressure, but stays within Bosh's recommended limits)

I mainly ordered it for the boost pressure gauge because I am not ready to drill into my intake manifold to get a good boost pressure reading. They are currently searching vendors for my module as they ran out of stock at Painless so I may not even get it.

Turbo Tim once got one of these and tinkered with it to determine how it does what it does. His conclusion was that it monitors the boost pressure, but doesn't really augment it. It keeps an eye on the boost pressure so that it knows when it can start dooping the ECU about the fuel pressure readings. I later got a second unit (because I sold the first one to him) and currently use it. It doesn't seem to alter the fuel pressures until around 1700-1800 rpm when the turbo is providing significant boost...based on what I can observe while driving. I haven't really seen significant changes in fuel economy either way...well, when having too much fun, it does go down.

I plan to get the GDE tune in the future as well. I came to the same conclusion of using it as a boost pressure gauge and just allowing it to ride around on "0" setting. Assuming it's accurate, it's a much simpler way to monitor boost and fuel rail pressure and for $99, it's also cheaper than many gauges on the market.

If anyone gets one of these and finds that their Jeep lopes at idle, it means that the setting on the "idle fuel pressure" is too high. For whatever reason, the ones I've gotten was feeding fuel at 7-8K psi when it needs to be closer to 4-5K psi. I think mine is running at -2 for that. The requirement to adjust it may have something to do with making up for, and I'm just theorizing here, a change in the voltages/resistance the engine computer is seeing when the module is part of the circuit.
