| Post subject: | MAP Sensor Dripping Wet with Oil.....Bad??? |
Did my routine maintenance/oil change, and instead of the normal soot/carbon buildup, when I pulled the MAP sensor to clean it up, it instead was dripping with burned oil. Dealer said they can get it in to look at tomorrow, but had to run it by the forum here 1st before I even try to take it there. I searched previous posts to try and diagnose, and no.........I never overfilled the crankcase with oil, so thats ruled out. I know the CCV vents into the intake stream, but is this much oil normal, or does it usually get burned off and turned into soot when everything is plugged in and running normal without running the ORM??? As soon as I seen this, the 1st thing I thought was "blown turbo seal" and panicked, but hopefully it's really nothing to worry about and those in the know here can calm my fears!!!!! Thanks for any help and advice you guys can offer. |

Didn't think to get pics, but just imagine a perfectly clean sensor with no "residue/buildup" of anykind, but was dipped into an oil bath and picked up sitting there dripping wet. |

That's not a common description of the many on here that have been cleaned. That would freak me out. |

Perfectly normal without using a Provent CCV filter or elephant hose mod. The liberty and most diesels spit a lot of oil with crank case blowby gasses. I strongly suggest doing the aforementioned soon or the crud you see can clog your entire intake which is a costly repair (cleaning). Additionally, just think of the amount of oil that is hanging out in your intercooler reducing its efficiency. First thing I have done on all of my diesels (4 to date) is to install a Provent CCV filter. It is one of the several mods that have to be done to improve on an inferior design. Replacement fuel head (newer OEM style or Racor) with lift pump (in-tank or external-Kennedy lift pump) are other inevitabilities for same reason. EGR sooty gas plus oil in CCV blowby gasses combine to form a very sticky black tar compound that will slowly clog your intake. EGR disabling is something to consider with SEGR or GDE tune. |

Check out this post, about 2/3 of the way down are some pics of a members that was an oily blob: viewtopic.php?f=98&t=22630 Add an EHM and you won't be shocked into worry any more. Also, unless you have a forthright dealer, don't take it to them. They would probably try to "rebuild" the turbo for you. |

Yeh, I've been running the ORM mod for some time now, and guess with the EGR disabled, the blowby doesn't get burnt into oily soot anymore and just leaves only the oil vapors to collect on the intake track. And believe me, the 2nd thought that went through my mind was the oil that must be sitting in the bottom of the CAC. I still have a few more months to go on the warranty. Once it's through and the dealer does their final checkup, the following is on the list of immediate upgrades: the GDE tune, Suncoast converter, shift kit, EHM/Provent, and lift pump. |
