Is it feasible to open circuit the EGR solenoid wires and insert a resistor (to the value of the winding of the solenoid), in order to bypass the operation of the EGR? I am looking for a simple workaround until GDE is available in Australia. I have unplugged the MAF but the CEL annoys me too much.

No, that would cause a circuit fault and could potentially damage your ECU.

Since your 07KJ has the pneumatic EGR actuator, just disconnect the vacuum supply coming from the engine and stick something in the rubber line to plug it off (screw, bolt, etc). You can leave the hose from the valve to the actuator connected, it won't hurt anything. Since the solenoid is located up top on the driver side of the engine, it should be a 10 second fix.

However, if the EGR is being commanded "open" but the engine doesn't see the air mass drop off, you will have poor driveability since the throttle valve is closing to compensate and you'll eventually get a deviation error saying that the EGR flow is insufficient.

Your best bet for least issues is to put a piece of tape over the cluster and not see the light for now.

Thanks MrMopar!

We have a guy here is Australia who seems to be successfully running his CRD without EGR by blanking off the EGR pipe (at the EGR valve end) and removing the FCV butterfly from the FCV assembly. I know patracy also blocked off the EGR pipe, but at the other end (manifold end). Patracy's approach seems to be the easiest to execute, but why remove the FCV butterfly? I want a solution that can be retro'd once I have GDE tune, so is that only the MAF unplug?

Take the butterfly out of the fcv, You will get a p0401 cel.

The fcv will CLOSE in order to have exhaust gasses crammed into the intake manifold. The exhaust manifold is under (typically) more pressure than the intake manifold.

You want the fcv wide open (or gone) and the egr closed.

The EGR tube separated at the exhaust manifold on my CRD.
It will be simple enough to block up the manifold.
Reading this post makes me wonder what will happen at the other end of the tube down by the EGR actuator.
Some have fabricated blocking plates, some have removed the butterfly and I would imagine some just ignore it.
GDE mentioned the use of EGR pressure to stabilize the turbocharger during throttle backoff after a hard charge, Crdmiller indicates the exhaust gasses corrupt the combustion process and contaminate the oil, ok, both very good observations.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice not to pollute.
I am thinking now, just order the darn pipe, clamp and get on with it.
But it is about $175 with shipping.....and it takes 6+hours....
There has to be a better way....

There is an easier way to replace the EGR pipe, if you temporarily relocate the fuel head you can get to the valve end from above. Jeep like to talk about a six hour job because that is what their manual says but it can be done in less. The pipe can also be repaired if you can weld and have the flange that broke off.

I've given up on EGR spoofing and blockage and will simply install GDE which will end the problem.

Yes,
I think with the warmer weather I will rip 'er out and send my ECU to GDE.
Just going to pay a big tax bill first.
