Will we ever see a metal Glow Plug to replace the fragile ceramic one?

I doubt it. Those things get to 800 degrees on startup, and stay on for up to 2 1/2 minutes.
Think of the space shuttle being all metal on re-entry.

Pyrometer probes are metal, and all of the other vehicles I owned with glow plugs were metal. 800 degrees is not all that hot for metal.

I guess not. Pizza ovens get that hot, except they don't have sensitive electrical component in there. The temp probes are usually tungsten or some other alloy. Probably comes down to cost more than anything, although I think a ceramic plug is is more heat resistant and less prone to failure.
