I have one and I always see 0004 and 3A00, which is just nonsense. The 299 you have is probably real. |

I had spurious codes come up sometimes. Does it happen both when the Jeep is running, in on with engine off and when it is off but in accessory mode? |

There is a list of DTC's in the Tech section. viewtopic.php?f=98&t=40073 P0299 is a common code for either a dirty MAP Sensor, or leaking boost hoses. Have you pulled and cleaned the MAP? Is your EGR operable? |

Have you pulled and cleaned the MAP? Is your EGR operable? I ve cleaned the map about 1 month ago, leaking boos hoses is possible, have to take them out and inspect. EGR is operable right now (generally run with orm) the thing is that after taping the solenoid the first time it started working again. Is the solenoid responsible for creating the vacuum or there is a vacuum pump somewhere? is this the same vacuum that the brakes use? thnks ! |

I have tried 2 different actron scanners and neither will work on my KJ so I am tired of trying to get the CEL read. I tried the one at the hobby shop and it did not work either. |

I bought a $100 Innova at Wal-Mart that has worked just fine, with only one quirk: You're always supposed to read the OBDII scanner with the engine off but the key in the "On" position. (all the dummy lights on the dash will light up) But I found that if I would just randomly go out and scan it, it wouldn't pick up a code even when I knew the CEL was lit. I have to scan it immediately after shutdown of a drive cycle in which the CEL is lit. For instance, if I have a CEL on Friday night, park it, then get up Saturday morning and expect to scan it, no dice. But if I go to the donut shop Saturday morning, then return home and scan it immediately after shutting off the engine, it will read the code. Maybe try that? |

Vacuum reservoir solenoid, located looking at jeep on the left hand side, will give you p0299, and/or p1252. unplug the solenoid and check it with an ohm meter, should have 30 ohms resistance. |

OK more on CEL 0299... I took the solenoid out and took it apart.. then put it back together (i have one in order but hasn't arrived)... No dice, still had the cell and limp mode top 10 psi boost at wot. unplugged the MAF ... boost came right back to normal.. Plugged the maff back in, boost still normal, truck runs without a problem. Also lately i have noticed a reduction on power of the brakes ... like i have to step on the brakes for it to brake... and sometimes it just goes down very spongy feeling... then 10 min later it works fine. what should i make of this ? |

Have you ever bleed/flushed the brakes? I just did this last weekend. The old fluid (4 years old) was orangish and dark. I wasn't having braking issues yet, but it wasn't looking good at all. |

Both the turbo and brakes use vacuum from the same source, the internal vacuum pump is gear driven off the crank. On the passenger side of the engine is a steel vacuum line that runs along the exhaust manifold area and opens up at rear of engine. You may want to trace the vacuum lines here to the turbo, HVAC and brake booster. If the vehicle performs well with the ORM, it points to a clogging EGR system as your root cause, but the soft brakes are a bit disconcerning. GDE |

GDE Thanks ! i always was courious where the vacuum came from, but too lazy to follow the hoses behind the engine. I ve replaced the modulator.. (the one without the filter) solenoid, breaks seem to work fine and have turbo back... I still want to order the regular solenoid (the one that has the filter) but moparts america send the modulator... instead. |
