I'm no expert hear, but I believe breaking a timing belt CAN cause some serious damage. Not sure if it always will though. How many miles were on the Jeep when it broke? |

I would strongly suggest getting a second opinion from another mechanic. A broken timing belt WILL cause head damage (I didn't have the belt break, but the tensioner bolt pulled out while the engine was running - Same effect. These are valve-interference motors, anytime the cams and the pistons are not moving in perfect sync... Bad things happen expensively. Every single rocker arm snapped, and I believe several of the valves rods were bent as well. FYI: Replacement parts ONLY for the rocker arms was like $75 each IIRC, times 16.. $1200 just in parts, labor was extra. Something is decidedly fishy here, we need more information. What happened, and how? Was the vehicle moving at the time, or idling? |

obxkjsmoker, Your signature does not indicate what model vehicle your driving, are you refering to an issue with the timing chain on a Liberty CRD? |

With "turbo back straight pipe" and "egt gauge" I'm going to infer CRD. MrMopar said the rockers were designed to break first so that they wouldn't kill the pistons That said - there are still a lot of parts - and it wouldn't be driving. The only guy I remember having top end issues was Sonix from South Africa |
