Hi all, I am a brand new Liberty CRD owner, and a long time Diesel enthusiest. I recently sold my beloved 1980 Scout II turbo diesel and Replaced with my new toy a 2005 KJ CRD Limited with only 30,200 miles. My question is, as the third owner is there any Warranty I can buy for it? It appears I am SOL for the factory warranty, anyone know my options? As far as I know all the recalls have been taken care of... The libby drives like a dream, still has new car smell, and averaged 27 mpg on my 2000 mile drive home from Texas where I had to pick it up (was an ebay auction). I love it! I have a Provent 200, and a Painless Striker II on order, thinking about a magnaflow muffler, and possibly a mod on the airbox. Any other suggestions? Thanks Much, Ryan |

Do either a GDE eco tune or an SEGR to "take care" of the the EGR problem. Clean your map sensor with clorine free brake cleaner. Install your provent and start enjoying your new to you CRD. With the GDE tune you won't need the Painless Striker II. Have not looked into aftermarket warrenties, but there has to be at least one or two companies that have a warrenty for CRD's - Mopar is not one of them when it comes to third owners though. |

I just bought an '05 CRD and changed the ownership info at Chrysler and checked for any outstanding recalls. They offer warranty transfer to 2nd owner; you may find out more. http://www.chrysler.com/webselfservice/chrysler/index.jsp?screenName=recall&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm%28%27R%27%29 It seems add-ons are a matter of personal choice. So far, I've gotten the GDE tune and a fumoto valve for the oil pan. Both were good investments IMO. First thing I DID to it was clean the MAP. tj |

PS The dealer here said it was Federal law that they take care of all CEL's no matter how many owners during 7/70. That is if they know what to do. |

Thanks all, good info. I just cleaned my MAP Sensor, wasn't too bad, I could still see the sensor in the middle of the cage. Hopefully a good indication... IF I am installing the ProVent 200 do I still need to do a SEGR or GDE eco tune? Ryan |

RyanMcD, Have your local dealer run a full "VIP" report and print it out for you. This will give you loads of useful info. See if your vehicle has a valid 7/70 powertrain warranty. (Not all '05s do.) If in luck, see if anyone paid the transfer fee. Technically, the 7/70 is only transferable to the second owner. However, if it wasnever transferred, you might have a chance. Additionally, there is a Western Mass based on-line seller of DCJ factory extended warranties that will sell well past 36 months after the in-service date for low mileage rigs like yours. (We have already more than recovered the $1800 we paid for ours.) DOC |

Not unless your the 1st or 2nd owner that paid the transfer fee, only applies to covered drivetrain parts(some are not covered). No federal law at all pertaining to the powertrain warranty to think of it.There is a Federal 8/80,000 warranty on the cat(PCM covered in cali only).

A Chrysler/Jeep service writer told me CEL's were possible air quality issues not affected by owner changes . . . and coverage was mandated for the full 7/70 by whatever gov't agency sets the emissions standards, EPA whatever. I guess the deal is THEY were willing to take my Jeep in and mess around under warranty to fix the P0299 code. . . . and bill Chrysler for it. I chose a GDE ecotune instead. |

Ryan, Check out this post if you haven't already. It looks like you've been doing your homework but what the hey. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=50930 Yes, even with the Provent you need to address the EGR issue. As a user of the GDE tune, I would of course suggest it, but there are other options as well. Welcome to the club, and I hope you enjoy your new ride! |
