This looks like some sort of filter on the feed side of the fuel. It is attached right by the fuel tank using a clamp that is sharing one of the tank strap points. The feed line goes through. It does not look factory to me? The E brake cable touches it when the jeep is on the ground and is heavily wearing into it, the output hose loops up and around and is touching the body and wearing that as well. I am ready to take it out, but wanted to throw it out there first. Thanks for any feedback.

It looks like a ford gasser inline filter to me. Good place to add a lift pump.

OK. The main thing I want to know is, does anyone else have this on their CRD?

Thanks,

I never seen anything like that on mine. I would say someone thought it was a good idea to add a pre-filter. I will have to look at mine again but I can not recall seeing anything like that. it it were me I would see about changing that filter or installing an in-line lift pump there if you are having trouble with air. If not a pre filter will keep your main filter cleaner longer.

Looks like a Fitch Fuel Catalyst device to me.

:BINGO:

Thank you! That is it. I lowered it down and got a better look at it. I also went to the website, and you are dead on.. It does not seem to be doing any harm, beside being poorly installed. I think I am going to sure it up a bit and leave it go for now. In tank lift pump coming soon. That will be the time to decide what to do.

Best,

Our friends down under have an opinion on the Fitch Fuel Catalyst device: https://www.mynrma.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/ ... l/6450.htm

No prob. They use those in the military a lot from what I heard. The manufacturer claims that it "freshens up" the fuel, and also provides an increase in fuel economy. You are the first one I've seen using it on a Jeep CRD though. I wonder if it provides any improvement for us? Would be interesting to log some numbers with it, then bypass it with a short section of hose and get some numbers and compare.

And I bet the company that makes them has some ties to an elected official that got them the business. The only thing needing "freshening up" is the stench caused by the B.S. spewed forth by our politicians.

Probably doesn't hurt to have it, but probably doesn't do a single bit of good, either.

From the chaffing on th efilter I would have alook at those lines as well to make sure they are still good.
