Post subject: | Newbie with some questions regarding GDE, Air Intakes, etc. |
Just purchased an 06 Liberty CRD with 27,000 miles on it and have been reading alot on here about the basics. My manifold sensor looked much like the ones others have posted, completely caked with soot. So i cleaned that out today and orderd a fumoto valve. My questions are these.... 1) Once the GDE eco tune is programmed is there a need to unplug the MAF sensor and install a provent or do an elephant hose mod? I understand this tune is supposed to clean up the EGR issues. And if so, once the new tune is being ran how often do you need to clean the MAP sensor, if at all? 2) It seems the only thing i have ran across was on a website i found by "eurekaboy" He had a simple upgrade for the stock CDR airbox, and then also suggested the V6 airbox swap which i see many have done by looking at there signatures. Is there any aftermarket intake kits available yet? Also, does anyone know the dimensions of the air filter to replace it with an amsoil filter? i think i read where some people are using those as well??? Whats the best setup? 3)Has anyone done themselves or purchased an exhaust kit that included a three inch down pipe? Can you even do that from the turbo back on this setup? I have read where people have expanded to three inch and used a magnaflow or something similar, just wondering if anyone out there has done 3 inch from the turbo? 4) I never came across anyone installing the renegade light bar onto a CRD because i dont believe it was an option in the diesels. But has anyone installed one? Was it hard to do? I think they look really sharp and would love to have one put on, but im sure the dealer would want a fortune in labor to do it. 5) Is the kennedy lift pump a necessary mod? Ive heard it quiets down the motor??? Anyone have any notice in performance after installing one? I know there is alot to cover, but if you have any input on one or all of my questions, please help out a newbie here. Thanks in advance I appreciate the help as I am new to jeeps, but not to diesels. Really looking forward to building this jeep.... |

GDE says provent or EHM isn't necessary. I choose to run it anyway because the EGR problem being solved still doesn't keep the oil mist out of the intake tract. I don't want oil going into my turbo, CAC, hoses, etc. V6 airbox mod is going to do nothing for you at all. The air intake tract to the box is so short that you'll be hard pressed to find anything more efficient and less restrictive than the factory stuff. I found that exhaust mods made NO difference in power or economy...it only makes a loud, obnoxious, 4-cylinder gas engine that's worn out kind of sound. Who wants that coming from a CRD? Lift pump is only necessary if you are having problems in my opinion. Both of my CRDs have been fine with the stock fuel system. |

The V6 airbox mod was never supposed to be about a higher flow arrangement. It is about keeping the filter cleaner and especially drier. The Amsoil air filter for the Liberty has more surface area than the stock filter. If memory serves, the pleats are longer and more plentiful than either a Mopar or Wix. |

If this is your 1st CRD Libby, you're gonna love all the capabilities the lil' tank can provide! About your queries: 1-Review the postings in the Tech section, very instructive & interesting. To sum it up very briefly, filter out output of CCV either with Provent or homemade catchcan system, get a GDE ECO or HOT tune (base your choice on TC situation, F37 et all), remove restricting muffler and allow full 2.5" throughput with Magnaflow or aftermarket equivalent. Look forward to more improvements by searching forum... 2-Stock airbox does fine, V6 one is considered better designed in regard to dirt and water being trapped at bottom. Judgement call on this one... BTW, I too got my 1st hints about mods to the Libby through Eurekaboy's site, not to mention the link to this incredible site: LOST! ![]() 3-As mentioned previously, no gain from making the exhaust output bigger than standard, only get rid of restrictive OEM muffler and pre/post sections... 4-No clue on this one, sorry! 5-Lift pump may be necessary if experiencing fuel pressure/filter issues, otherwise not necessary IMHO but still relevant, though! Hope this help a bit! You will soon find out, by exploring the forum, how rich it is in information and knowledgeable people who are genuine and dedicated. Heck, I'm still amazed after almost a year! |

I just got my first Jeep and first diesel in August. The first mod I did was the Fumoto valve, makes oil changes very simple. I added the Amsoil air filter a few weeks later. There isn't much more you can do for air intake that will get you more air and good filtration with out spending a lot of cash for little gain. I have the Pro-vent 200. That can be ordered from Reilable industries, look for the thread on the best price on that if you want it. I have My MAF unplugged for now but ordered an SEGR kit I need to build, I may still get a GDE tune and sell the SEGR..... still not sure. GDE is more money but has more benifits and is less work to fix up in the vehicle. I have no lift pump as of yet. I have no issues with air in the fuel lines if I bleed it well when changing the filter.... untill i do I don't see installing one worth it. good luck with you Jeep and post some pics of it so we all can see if you haven't yet |

Mods all depend on how much time and money you got, how many other vehicles you have to maintain, etc. and so forth. My only mod is the GDE tune. It is the only mod "I" need. |

The exhaust mod is worthwhile if you remove your cat and fit a free flowing muffler in 2.5 i. Quicker response, turbo spooling and better economy if you drive it carefully and not foot to the floorboards. |
