im sure this has been hashed to death but i need fuel system help. at the 48,000 mark i replaced the fuel filter system with a raycor, complete with heater. at about 50,000 i started getting hard start problems and now its almost every time i start. the engine will fire run about 10 seconds and quit. i can pump the fuel blead on the raycor and restart and the engine will then be in the limp mode. shut down and restart and everything is roses. I have changed the filter thinking i had a leak but the problem persists. is this an indiacation my fuel lift pump is going bad and allows an air blead? i thought it may have someting to do with the cold but thats gone now.thoughts from the many minds here please? i love the machine but hate the issue now in front of me. cant let the better half drive it for fear of it letting her down. |

I notice you just joined and are asking if this is a sign of your lift pump failing  First thing is 05/06 CRD's DID NOT COME WITH A LIFT PUMP  So if you or a previous owner have not installed one then yes it's defintely failed by being MIA  We need more information but it sounds like a classic case of air in the fuel because of the fuel lines in our CRD's being designed for a gasoline engine that are under pressure instead of the vacuum system we have

?? - I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the Racor, admittedly it only addresses the fuel head - and the connections at the tank are for pressure systems not vacuum. I'd check all of the connections / lines around the install I do have a lift pump - personal preference is to fix the vacuum leak and then add the pump as a safety factor, but the in tank pump does solve a lot of problems. |

thanks for the response. actually i have been lurking around here for years, lost my log in and reupped. i was under the impression that i had a lift pump back at the tank. silly me. i have had the truck from day one and i didnt install one so im sure there is not one there, after reading this. im figuring that if i do a search there will be info about fuel line replacement? its been a great ride with no problems before this. im a big diesel fan in fact the only thing i dont have diesel in is my CJ and my chain saw. wish i could still get a perkins for the CJ but that dosent seem likely. again thanks for the info and i will double check all of my lines this weekend. |

If you were having no problems before this, by 99% your fuel head or recent connections are leaking air. Did you use hose? Did you use over sized clamps? Are threaded connections loose? Can you put the OE fuel head back in and try that out for a while? I guess that is why I am not too big on unnecessary mods? |

i understand where you are comming from, i always say "for every action there is a reaction". not always a good thing. i did the raycor mod because i did have a burnt fuel heater and it was leaking. took a long time for it to appear but thanks to the folks here, i kept an eye on it and it eventually burnt up the connector. i will do a double check on everthing this weekend, supposed to be 80 deg here so it will be nice to get out. thanks. |
